Ditto, if I can't walk it safely, I shoot from the gutter line. And safely for me is safe for me and the roof. Only once I have ever tied off, and that was to a tree. Not to keen on using a vent pipe, if I have to use that I shoot from the gutter line on a ladder.
 
I don't market residential gutter cleaning. We only do them if we are doing the house or if they are regular customers. I turn down a hundred a month at least. We market commercial gutter cleanouts, townhomes, apartments etc. Here they have to be cleaned out every three months or so or they overflow and fall off or rot the facia boards.

Here, less than 1/2 of houses have rain gutters and I would like to clean more of them as it is not a bad job but so many don't have gutters and most of the reasons I have heard is that they are a maintenance issue and have to clean them out several times a year.

For those that have rain gutters, I would like to market to them but not sure what to say as I don't get a lot of calls for rain gutter cleaning.

I too would've shot that from the low pitched porch roof.

I've got a harness for lifts, but I've never used it on a roof. Tying off to a roof vent is crazy, plus you have to set it up and take it down without being tied off...

If a roof is that dangerous we do it from the roof line. In the worst case scenario I've scooted up valleys before to spray a high area.

That roof is not very steep. He should not spray like that unless he has someone on the ground rinsing the plants off. Anyone should avoid walking the roof when possible, but especially not walk the ridge vent. I walk some of the bigger houses and spray down because it is safer in some circumstances where the front of the house is 35 feet from the ground but the rear might be only 20 feet. We have a lot of hills around here and some of the steep roofs are accessed easier from the rear deck and where there are more valleys to climb in. I plead the fifth on the other.

Christopher, you can't talk people into cleaning their gutters if they get no rain! That is why no one has gutters down there. In areas where there is much rain, gutter cleaning sells itself because their soil erodes away from the foundation and water end up being directed into the house instead of away from it. Also, as stated earlier the gutter will eventually fall off from rotting fascia and damage will occur to the eaves.
 
OK were is the ground guy?? No gutters are bagged. Why would you walk that roof? you can get that from the gutter line. I guess we all do stupid stuff once in a while.
If that was my crew. Someone would have gotten FIRED. Sneakers? Really?
 
The gutters that are here are filling up with leaves and dirt then eventually turn into gardens. People are tired of the maintenance, probably the main reason for most not having gutters here.

These are the people certifying people in the industry. If this was just a contractor that was not portraying to be the teacher I would have no issue with how someone does this.

We need a organization video Made by reasonable people who can understand that standard are met.

If I allow a bone head to produce a video representing possible harm to someone please tell me.

Sorry, the guy runs the Rcia.

People do not realize association with certification like this can cause you more harm than good.

If I'm a manager looking to higher someone an I see this is the leader of the association I'm going to think a bit about the possible hazards.

Let's just say I see this , I hire the guy an he falls off my roof. He's going to sue me because he likely has no issuance. Your insurance company is saying we ain't paying because you practiced unsafe methods. Now his lawyer says your client knew he cleaned that way. It was ok with them.
They should have has better tiles, they knew he was walking on them with out a rope. They shouldn't have been that slippery, we know they knew. Why didn't they say anything?

Yeah is far fetched. But since when isn't the stupidity of our system.

People get shot robbing a home win million dollar law suits.
