Plastic Sheeting

Dear Ron,
Get a grip. This started about the high price of plastic and the price increases. He wanted a better deal. I gave him one. A successful, proven one. I bet you are one of those BIG TRUCK , BIG MACHINE BIG HEAD kinda operations.I dont use dirty plastic. Apparently you need to improve your "understands what he reads skills". You could probably steal a few customers, but guys like you usually get it in the end. HAHAH.

Come on guys you are talking about $10.00 throw the plastic away.to even roll up and pick up and bring to the next job is not only ridiculious its being cheap.sorry if i ofended you

Patrick,
Read the first , initial post.
When you do more that one small job a day, it is a lot more than $10.00 worth of plastic. Plus you are throwing away a lot of reuseable material. YOUR CHOICE.
Oh, all you eat off it, board of health, guys. Look inside your wet vac. Look inside the wet vac hose. Look at all your equipment. Look at your dirty boots. Heavy duty rubber gloves. Ahh yes sanitized after each and every job. God help you if the board of health checks on you. And all you sodium hydroxide users out there. Watch out for EPA. Especially with the run off from the fans that goes into the drains. Are you making sure the runoff water goes thru the grease trap? Are you really supposed to put all that grease you scraped into the dumpster? Did you sanatize your hands before you touched all that super clean equipment, utensils, door knobs, aghhhhhhh
Get a grip guys. You all do a hell of a lot worse that reuse reusable plastic.

 ok before i got into this line of work i was a electrical contractor for 10 years.99% resdintel work, wiring new counstruction ,at the end of the job i left all wire scraps right where they fell.I could have had my guys clean them up,and i could have sold them for scrap.to me that was penny wise and dollar folish, and these where big jobs we did and it would have yieled a nice price at the scrap yard, but i would have to pay labor to get this done.to me this is dollar foolish.just my 2 cents:eek

Just count yourself lucky I dont live in your area. Youd be so busy saving a buck on plastic while you were loosing thousands to me in customers.

Not sure but I think your post was directed at me, its Rog not Ron, who needs to brush up on his reading skills?
Have a good one Ted.

The scraps are not reusable on the jobs. The large peices of plastic are. Actually usable for several jobs. Scrap copper not apples and apples

Look, I have been doing this for many years. It works, cuts costs, cuts down on trash. Wasteful is as wasteful does.
This kinda reminds me of another heated discussion I had regarding machines. I use electric cold water machines. They work fine for the jobs I do. Most hood cleaners barked and barked at me. Finally my most vocal opponent did try it. It worked! Not for every job but for most. It saved him time and money. He keeps a cold water machine on his truck and uses it whenever he can. Most of the people against this seem to know it all without even trying or actually considering it. It doesn't apply for every job but it does work for most. Something new makes everyone jumpy. Not the way they do it........OH NOOOoooooo. I can see throwing greasy dirty 1.5 mil plastic away. But not slightly stained 3 mil. Sorry, waste not, want not.

Dear rog,
Read the initial post.
If you were in my area trying to get my customers your head wouldn't fit thru the doorways
Say, how is the bling contest going?

Yes it is apples to apples, your talking about saving money, and yes some scraps are useable.
Pay to employeel $30.00 per hour.Time taken to go around and pick up scraps for next job or scrap yard=a waste of my money and employee time.My feeling is this is just part of the cost to do business, unless you are such a lowballer and you have to cut corners every where you can.

Dear Patti

This post was in response to a request for better deals in plastic. It wasnt a forum on your opinion of my better deal. I dont know how it gets to this, but it you dont have a helpful post for Bill, why not shut up. I cant figure how anyone can go from an electrical contractor to this. You must have been a real success in that too.

Patrick - Can you fill in your signature area please! Thanks!

Now for the rest of ya'll....

This is a board for contractors to come and share their knowledge and experience, so lets not go overboard on plastic sheeting. Everyone has clearly expressed their opinions, now lets move on. Please keep this board civil and professional.

I don't recall ever seeing you post in this forum. If you have read the threads of the past you will see that us KEC Professionals are very passionate about our way being the best way. A lot of discussions get heated and end up with guys poking insults towards one another. I think this has been a great discussion about pros and cons of reusing plastic sheeting. It's also fun watching people beat on each other.

I just ordered a pallet of plastic and it is a major price event. Reuse is just not worth the time to manage-just my 2 cents

Dave,
What price did you pay for the pallet? and does that include shipping?

Ed

The reason for the pallet post was to show that plastic is a major cost issue-thats all. Ed you have to relax, not everyone wants to create a problem issue.

Okay - I guess I will join in the debate. Although I dont do hoods or vents, I use plastic sheeting to tape off the house, patios, plants, or whatever when I am stripping/sealing decks. I always throw away the sheeting, even if it only has a few drips on it. I could very well reuse it, but I just dont want the hassle of folding it all back up and hauling it to the next job. I just buy a new one for each job - they are not that expensive and it looks more professional in my opinion.

Ok, have at me.......

David,
I am relaxed. You should not assume everyone is upset. I was attempting to get you to focus on the original post. Something that we seem to lose sight of often.

I am glad that you are relaxed - at times posts seem to make a turn and just drive around the subject. Hanging a hood takes time and practice-no right ways - many wrong ways. Just take your time and look for ways that the water can be contained and not bust out of your controled area.
