Thanks Scott, here are the questions:
Did you custom build the 3 part separator?
No, I have the steel eagle separator. If I was to do it again, I would use three tanks so that I could have a larger capacity, and more time for the solids to settle out
What mods did you do to the water boy internally?
I have not done any mods to the internals of the water boy. It is silly simple, about the only thing that you can do is put in a better oil capture system, and maybe some finer filtration media.
How efficient is the settlement tank on the steel eagle compared to the drop out tanks?
I don't know.
How do you like the built in cyclone separator on the steel eagle?
Honestly, I think that it serves zero purpose.
what would you change on the vac end of the process?
I would come up with a larger filter for the blower, because I have had it get plugged on multiple occasions. I would also make it lower profile. As it stands, if I am going into a garage with a height of 6'6" I have to remove the cap on the blower to make sure I clear. Since there is so much wasted space under the blower, I would think it would be easy to do. I also would put a larger fuel tank on the blower. I hate having to carry gas cans. They say they plan it to be able to work an 8 hour day. That is wildly optimistic at best. I can get, maybe three hours out of a tank of fuel on it.
So you prefer the pump similar to what Robert and Larry uses on the Recycle 16 for pumping out of the H20 Boy? I prefer those pumps myself.
I don't know what kind of pump they use. I should have looked closer when I was in Ft. Worth. I do like the symer geyser pumps, though. Their only drawback is that they do not have a float switch on them.
The final stage polishing filters, you like the bigger ones that Tom Durbin uses. Me too, but how big would you want to go? Mine are the 8" diameter, 24 housings. I think that since I am using them in a multi stage process that is sufficient.
What sequence of micron polishing do you recommend?
I prefer a 200 micron filter, a 100 micron filter, a 50 then a 20. I have had zero pump problems with that size of filter and it slows down the filters getting plugged with debris. I have actually run with no filters on a long term, when I was in a bind, without any problems. So a 20 is plenty sufficient for my needs.
In your experience would you choose bag over cartridge?
Cartridge every time. My experience is that first the bags plug up quickly, because they have no surface area, and that, if you have a plastic inner housing for the bag, it melts, thus ruining the seal, and the inner housing.
Thanks Scott, appreciate your time
