New Chemical Pump Acting Up?????

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a second chemical pump while my other is being sent back for warranty and I having an issue with it. I purchased a flojet from the power wash store 12v 4.7gpm 60psi. I was on a roof today and for some reason it would lose all pressure then i would shut the valve off and after 5 minutes or less it would kick on again. It almost seemed like it was overheating and shut off automatically until it cooled down. This made the job a lot longer and it was very annoying. Anyone ever have this problem or knows how to solve this issue???
 
An accumulator is the same as a "well fed" domestic water expansion tank. Ever seen a "Pretty Blue" tank in a basement where the incoming water line is? That is an expansion tank and an accumulator is just the same. It provides a reserve capacity for the system.

Also, What size tip are you running with the 12 volt pump? When the pump is operating correctly, Do you hear it cycling on and off while you are spraying?

I just ordered a jrod from the power wash store and they put the tips in there according to the gpm.
 
Are you using a "True" deep cycle battery? You should be running #20 or #30 size tips in the Jrod....If you're using regular pressure washing tips in it now.....you're back pressuring the pump causing it to over heat due to forcing higher flow through smaller tip.

Big difference between a 2 gpm shurflo & a 4.7 Flojet.....Sounds like operator error

I bought a jrod with #30 that was recommended by the power wash store who sold me the pump.
 
You think there is a problem being up 30 feet in the air? Would that cause back pressure on the pump?

That can back pressure a pump, yes. But if you had a strong deep cycle battery, good tight connections....I would say no. 30' up can drain a battery and stress pump from "Head Pressure".

I do have a deep cycle battery that was brand new bought in February. It had a full charge when i started the roof it hard wired to the battery terminals. I'm not sure what it can be. I will check the voltage In the morning to see where it's at.
 
How are you suppose to do a roof then if you can't be up that high?
 
I said it "can" not it "did". Voltmeter won't give you amps....that's what you need to know. Strange problem you got there........what size hose are you running?

The hoses going into and out of the pump is 1/2 then the reel hose is 3/8 300'
 
Your problem is the 300 ft of 3/8" hose. That is most likely what is causing the back pressure and then causing the pump to overheat. You should use 1/2" straight through
 
Musta notta' did enough research on roof cleaning and hose size regarding friction loss with long lengths of and too small diameter ,.. especially where 12V pumps are concerned. You can tell Chris Tucker is in the hospital and can't respond,...because you would have gotten a VERY long winded response, Ha,Ha,..Chris has been telling people this for years and there are 100's of threads on various forums in reference to this.

30' up shouldn't be a problem as long as the hard wiring to your battery is of correct size(no less than 14awg and kept as short as possible). Your hose "HAS" to be at least 1/2" from the pump all the way to the gun with zero restrictions between the reel and gun or ball valve, Whichever your running.

As I asked earlier, When you run the system as you currently have it, Can you hear the pump cycling (While you are spraying)? If so, It's a sure indicator you have too much restriction within the line from the reel to the gun. Tips can also be a problem however, The 3/8" hose is most likely your problem.

Also, Keep in mind, A 12 volt (Demand) pump shouldn't be cycled on and off more than 2 to 3 times per minute. It will overheat.
