Henry Bockman
Maryland Pressure Washing
Two of the largest contracts I've gotten have been a direct result of my membership in PWNA.
OK.....I went to the site, read about ethics and enviromental issues. Networking is cool and all but I can get that elsewhere. What are the real benefits? Are there National Contracts, Leads, Information on Bids, etc.
I am all in if there is something that can really be gained from joining, but if it just another org. that people join for a listing on some directory and the chance to put a cool little logo on their website then I am not interested at all.
One good benefit would be group health insurance. Does the pwna off that?
As we all know I am a big believer in orgs. I think if one day I could add the PWNA,NYSPA,NPA,UAMCC, BOMA,CAI and a few other orgs. Like a PWI org I would like to have all there logo's on my webpage. It just makes your company look that much more involved and interested. Yes some of these orgs cost a ton like BOMA but if you Market them right and go to there meetings while your guys are out in the field I think you can make plenty of serious contacts.
Yes I go to a convention or two and the same with RT's each year but I am not in the position yet because of my other job to donate the time I need to do what it is that I want to do to get to that next step. But when I do I will look to get involved alot more thru meetings and networking to score some bigtime work as in large jobs. That is my plan but once again I need to try to get out of my "Other Job" who now is offering me a 23% raise over the next 5 years. This job has been to good for me but it does cripple my growth of my Powerwashing business and I am also not getting any younger.....What to do what to do???????????????????
Also...I have been in this business for quite some time and have grown the business to levels that I never would have thought possible, I have 6 rigs running and we have grown every year. I say this only because in all my dealings with customers, I have never been asked ONCE about an association with an org. or where the little org logos were on my website. In fact people don't care, people dont expect it, people want their stuff cleaned well and want it cleaned at a fair price. People are suprised when they call and hear a professional business person on the phone and not some drunk, hillbilly painter doing this parttime. Are you in a Union too?

If you want to grow, focus on YOUR business.
Could you tell me Paul, why is do Canadians not seem to really participate in the boards, orgs, etc? More importantly, why do we not have anywhere up here to find info?
Equipment and Chem costs are so much higher, we really are left at the mercy of our suppliers. I find that even many of those are so far behind the times. Most of them don't even have websites yet.
I'm just curious. I really prefer not to see my direct competition on these boards or joining an org, but I really wouldn't mind networking with Canadians in other areas.
sorry...i could not resist.
