Fleet Washing Pricing

We're like Scott in that we have a lot of competition so our prices are lower, which in my opinion is stupid anyway. It's tough enough to make money at times without cutting each others throats to make a buck. Bring your car to an automatic car wash and you will drop $10-$12 for a wash, and I'm not even talking about the fancy, get-out-of-your-car car wash, which around her runs $25-$30. A lot depends on the area as well. When my Dad had his mobile wash he was getting $20-$25 per tractor or trailer, $15-$20 per straight truck. It also took him longer to wash his equipment though, so that justified the higher pricing. But he still was making a good living until he hurt himself and couldn't do it anymore. He didn't do ANY advertising, NO sales calls, NO decals on his truck,and his phone was still ringing off the hook because there wasn't anyone else doing it where he was at along with word-of-mouth....
 
When I got Started Pressure Washing it was in 1989. There was a guy from Alabama named JT.. He said he worked outside the Steele Truck Stop for years washing trucks.. He moved to Ridgeland, MS That is where I met Him , I was working for Reed Fire Equipment at the time.. I used to help him wash trucks for American Van Lines and United Van Lines.. He made his own soap and we would wash probably 10 to 12 trucks a day.. It was tough work. Matter Fact JT and I started on of the first vent hood cleaning business in Mississippi... JT Charged about 25.00 (CASH) to wash a rig and we used a 1100 psi homemade cold water machine..Damn I was only 23 years old back then ...and I can still remember being tired after a day of washing trucks..
Years went by and JT passed away ,OTS truck wash closed .. I still kept cleaning vent hoods though..No Trucks... Then I noticed a company opened about 10 years ago called Blue Beacon on 49 south they get like $19.95 to wash a truck and that place is always packed full... Once they get you in they try to sucker the truck drivers into getting all kinds of other services.
What I think is odd though in Mississippi the average guy that drives around with the little water tank and cold machine with the generator and wet vac on his trailer just to clean a car at someones location gets $ 25.00 ....WOW..
 
Yeah, It's kinda funny when a guy in a car comes up to me while I'm out washing and he wants his car done. They usually offer $5-10 to get it done. I feel like I'm robbing them because it takes me about 3 minutes or less to do their car and I'm getting close to the same money as a semi-tractor which takes three times as long, along with a lot more chemical to clean it. The funniest part is that they're happy thinking they got a inexpensive car wash and they don't realize what someone is paying for having the truck sitting alongside of them to get cleaned...
 
Blaine - Thats funny too, because we always get people pulling up when we are out washing fleets. The cool thing is that we do some freight companies, where the employees come out and hand us $5 to wash their car in the P-lot, and your right it takes about 4 minutes. :)
 
I do it fairly often, maybe more than I should. I'll give you an example: We have this UPS account. This has been mine to maintain for about a year. Every time I would go there I would see this Jeep that didn't look like it had been washed in at lease a couple of years;real caked-on dirt and heavy, heavy brake dust on the wheels. The thing never moved while I was there. One day I had a little extra time while I was waiting for my help to finish up so I went over to this Jeep and cleaned it right up, made those aluminum rims just shine. It looked like new again! Just my luck, the owner comes out and thanks us 6-7 times and has paid us $10 each time to wash it since. Also, it's quite likely his fellow employees have been asking him when did he finally break down and wash that Jeep, so probably the whole office knows about what we did. In my opinion, the money's nice, but if they're ever thinking of switching wash vendors down the road, maybe that's the guy that will be the dissenting vote and he'll convince them to stick with us, all because I spent a couple of minutes washing his car.
 
I would be carefull washing cars that you dont have permision to. just last sunday i was out giving a few free demo's. I washed a small box truck that hadnt been washed in a while for free without asking. I left my magnet card on the truck. Tuesday i got a call from the owner about it. He said there was a reason that he doesnt wash it..the paint is old and it has a $3,000 wrap. He said if he was a ..ck he would go after my insurance. I love to wash rigs that realy need it but somtimes it comes back to bite you.

IF he was a %*ck?!!! Wow sounds like he already is...did you notice anything happen to the paint when you washed it? Sounds like a cheap S.O.B. to me. I don't know too many guys who drop 3 grand on a wrap with having crappy old paint on a truck that they can never wash. Guess we have just been lucky with the people we do that style of free demos for.
 
I hope they are getting better prices for fleet washing today then what i see some would wash for i would not touch it i need to make 150.00 hour washing fleets. and we wash alot of fleets and there is good money if you know how to get it.

I had a call to do some fleet washing for a local trucking company. They run about 20 trucks. I found some pricing online but it seems really high to me, but maybe not. What is the going rate for a basic wash on a day cab rig with 52' trailer? Denver is a major hub for trucking so I am sure the other powerwashing companies out here charge a pretty penny and we only have 2 truck washes in town. :confused:
