This is going to sound like a stupid question which it probably is, but why are the trailer style pressure washing rigs so popular? It seems like everyone has them. I am surprised that even in colder environments (like you guys up in Colorado) you have them there as well, instead on something enclosed.
 
Like Russ, I like open trailers because you can work off of them very easily, also all the components are right there to work on instead of wedging yourself between a wall and the machine to fix something. Also cheaper to buy.
With that said I am going to start buying enclosed trailers or box trucks in the future for the signage, security and winter temps.
 
They just seem to limit a person on the amount of water you can hold, the elements of weather being a problem, and then having to get a class "A" CDL drivers license and yearly vehicle/trailer inspections and of course everything that goes along with that....:confused:
 
Dont need a CDL here? Trailer inspections? Whats that, the lights work right=)
 
You do in Minnesota, and my understanding is that they follow Federal guidelines. Any vehicle used for commercial activity which consists of a truck and trailer and a COMBINED vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or greater must be inspected and certified by a registered DOT inspector each year. Basically, this means that if you pull your trailer with anything other than a half ton pickup your breaking the law. I have friends that own lawn care services and roofing companies that have gotten fined for this (they now have Class "A"'s), and the DOT inspectors sit in a vacant lot about a half mile away from our shop at least twice a week, and they have these guys pulled over all the time....
 
There are a lot of reasons that I prefer a trailer. I have tried a big truck and it just did not work for me.
1. I do a lot of my own work, and often have employees with me. That being the case, if I have a meeting that I need to go to, I can unhitch the trailer and away I go.
2. I can store a trailer in the backyard of my house. I cannot store a big truck back there because of zoning requirements.
3. The cost of a trailer pickup rig for me is less expensive.
4. Insurance is cheaper.
5. It is not so intimidating for some of my customers.
6. I can park a pickup and trailer anywhere without so much as a second glance.
7. I prefer an open rig, usually. Unless I am looking for somewhere to relieve myself.
8. I can use a pickup to make sales calls and run errands.
9. Sometimes I need to haul more than two people, and I prefer a crew cab pickup for that.

That is good for a start. For what it is worth, I feel that anyone that runs a pressure washing rig with any kind of water tank is irresponsible if they do not have at least a 3/4 ton pickup.

Oh and by the way - the trailer is up for sale if anyone is interested. Asking $800 for it, its a 5x8 Interstate (load runner model) 2005 Model. We are getting a 7 x 14 next week. Yippie
 
Colorado weather is unpredictable....this winter we have had 7 weeks of snow, usually we get snow and it melts the next day. We run open trailers because its easier to get stuff in and out of, no routing a burner exhaust, and honestly it gets alot of attention going down the road, you would not believe how many people pull up next to us and ask for a business card because they see the unit. If we arent washing we are plowing and vise versa........

We have looked at enclosed trailers time and time again...but Nate just likes the open ones. I guess its just one's opinion - just like ford, dodge, or chevy.......
