Fleet Washing Pricing

fleets

Hi all, my first post. Glad to find this website. I have never done any kind of work other than fleet washing so it is my specialty. I wash 230 pickups monthly, and two trucking companies twice per month. One has 20 tractors 20 trailers, and 3 box trucks. The other company has 5 box trucks, 5 cabs, and 1 trailer. I charge 15 per trailer, 8 per cab, 10 per pickup ( a lot of driving). I wish like heck I could find ways to do other kinds of pressure washing services but have no idea as to how much to charge.

I've been doing this for about two years now and the best advice these guys have givin me is," How much do you want to make?" plain and simple. You know what your expenses are so after you take away expenses, then ask your self, how long is the job going to take and how much do you want to make. good luck,

With the right equipment, especially in the area and circumstances you've mentioned, you both could make a handsome living doing fleets. Then you can get away with dealing with the public, which in my opinion, is a real pain in the rear!

BIODUDE,
Those are nice some trucks you have. Do you have pics of the inside setup?

For those that want to see Dave Olsens competition in the cool equipment category, here is the link. Awesome looking equipment.

So Ron, when are you going to upgrade?

Actually, that's an older photo. We've started switching over to the newer Internationals now. We've designed everything to be as simple and neat as possible so there isn't a whole lot of equipment: PTO driven pump, hot water, runs 3 wash guns, all two stepping. You can really wash a lot in a day, and you can be proud of your handywork because they look great.

Sounds awesome. I just got a new account with a company with about 25 tractors and trailers. I will make my first wash tomorrow. I have a tandom axle trailer with 400 gallons of water, 85 of soap, and a small reclaim tank. I run one 13 hp honda with a Cat 310 pump and a 16 hp briggs with an AR belt driven pump. I run 100 ft. hoses and long wands. My trouble is that this company keeps all trucks on gravel. The good thing is to be compliant with the EPA here, as long as the wash water doesnt enter storm drains, I am fine and their website in Arkansas states that vehicles and equipment can be washed on gravel or grass where the wash water will absorb into the ground. My guys work quick. I am sure that the ground wont be saturated enough for there to be any runoff through the gravel. Am I in the clear?

i have a guy wanting me to do 72 trucks and trailers every other week ,they are all day cabs and log trailers ,no water on site and in about 3 locations ,i am thinking leave it alone but if i do it i want to make money not the standard rate as it will prove to be much more difficult, probably distance between locations would be 15 to 20 miles ....anyoone got any ideas ????

You are not allowed to have the water run into the water ways of the UNited States. This means storm drains, Creeks, rivers and lakes. It also appliess to Gutters. So as long as it is not hittign anything that might transport it off site, you should be good.

Dependign on how dirty and type of equipment, they will usually take about 50 to 100 gallons a truck and trailer combination. IF there is a water truck on site you might be able to access that. In this case the spread out nature willhelp you because you might be able to finda watering hole to fill your tanks at somewhere.

thanks Scottie !!!! there is NOOOOOOOO water i would have to take it and i really dont think i can make it worth my while because they are half logging trucks (muddy ,muddy) and the resy are OTR and always filthy dirty ,not much chrome or aluminum these are very basic trucks (bare bones) besides the closest water is about 10 miles from the site

wow, that would be a hard job to say no to. I have some buddies in the business in Little Rock. They fill their tanks up at fire hydrants. They both have meters though to stay out of trouble. You must have a lot of business to turn that down. Otherwise, see if you could just wash the cabs and do a quickie on the trailers. I dont like mud either.

We do 4 trash trucks and we use anywhere from 275 gallons to 400 gallons, usually about 2 tank fulls at least, sometimes more, but I ALWAYS use the customers water for fleet. The trash trucks we clean run the back country of colorado and are always covered in red clay mud.
We cant make nearly the money in fleet that we do in commercial flatwork, but everyone knows that!

Blaine,
That is it.

Russ,
The reason that he wants you to do it is because no one else will. IF yo do take it, I would make sure that i charged accordingly, which would be so much that he probably won't want to spend the money.
