We have a big guy bar on our sc and a tip popped out of it. I attempted to put a new tip in it and the thread on the bar is damaged. Can thread be fixed?

Probably not, if that happens we usually just replace it, it aluminum so its very soft and easy to strip the threads.

I had the same thing happen last week Jonathan. I had the hole on the bar re-threaded and it is working fine. Be sure to use locktight on the threads of the new spray tips. Teflon Tape doesn't seem to work to good especially after the holes are re-thraded. You can only do that so many times though. After that ya gonna need a new bar. Mine have been done 2x now. Hope this helps! :)

That is very nice of you Russ. Cool.

I have knocked out a nozzle in 2 of the Big Guy spray bars and 1 of the Classic spray bars. I have the tap and might try to re-do them. Hopefully it will work. If not, time to order another spray bar.

teflon and aluminum dont mix. Iforget why, but they dont. Good ol Bob told me that one.

Go to lowes and get a 1/4 mpt tap. Take the tap and re-thread the hole yourself. I have not been able to find the Male Pipe Thread Tap anywhere but lowes as for the box stores but they have them made by Cobalt and on an endcap near the welders if i am not mistaken. Check it out.

I think the thread design for the nozzles on the bar of whiper wash surface cleaners is crap and made mention of it on PTState a while back.
For the money we are paying for whiper wash surface cleaners they can add stainless inserts to the bar for the nozzles to thread into.
There are plenty of us who would R&D the new bar design and see if it works and is worth adding a few more dollars to the price.

I had looked at Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, etc....could not find the pipe thread taps anywhere but at Western Auto, they have them. I got the 1/4" and the 3/8" taps and dies.

Everyone sells the bolt thread tap and die sets but it is hard to find the pipe thread tap and dies.

I needed them in a hurry and did not look online, I am sure you can find them all over online or maybe a local toolpusher or grainger.

I am going to call Steel Eagle and see if they could make a special spray bar to fit the whisper wash machines, if so that would be great. I am not crazy about their design but it holds up a lot better, just hate that little plastic card to mess with to make sure that the angles are correct.

I just got off the phone with Carl at Steel Eagle and he said that he could make a 1 piece spray bar that would direct adapt to the Alkota surface cleaners (really a Steel Eagle surface cleaner) or the whisper wash surface cleaners or 2 piece spray bar like what comes on their surface cleaners, they just need a swivel and spray bar to get the measurements correct and could adapt to the 1 piece units like the Big Guy and Classic.

I do not have the extra swivel here to send them, maybe next time one goes out but if someone wants to send their swivel from a Big Guy or Classic (they use the same swivel) then they can start working on spray bars for both the Classic and Big Guy. I do have a spray bar from both the Classic and Big Guy that I could send them if someone can send them a swivel, it would be returned to you when they are done taking measurements.

if the spray bar is the weakpoint now, and we replace these for stainless inserts what will be the next weakest link. The shaft. If this is the case and you hit a bolt you would potentially be fixing swivels instead of spray bars. Any thoughts on this

Bars are an expendable item. Keep one on the truck allways. After a while they begin to collect dust because you get smart and don't forget the pain you went through the last time you had to throw down a wad for a new bar... There goes the profit again...

Carl at Steel Eagle told me that is why they make theirs out of steel pipes so if you hit something very hard it will bend the spray bars instead of damaging the swivel.

I will look at converting the Big Guy and Classic over to the Steel Eagle spray bars, I am sure that they will last a lot longer that way.

The swivels..........that is another story. I will soon be trying out a new type of bearing that should help me with my problem I am having, they have put it into use and have good results with it so maybe I will also. It would be great to be able to use the Classic or Big Guy after it sits for a month or longer and the bearings have not seized up.

Anyone have a spare swivel that they can send so they can get measurements? You will get it back, I promise.

Man I just read the name of this thread again and I can't believe nobody has asked when is happy hour. Hey Russ you going to be the one opening up the "Big Guy Bar", I think it will go over better if you make it "Big Guy's Bar" doesn't sound like one of Larry's places then.:D

I should open one here and call it " Little Dude's Watering Hole ". :D Hahaha!
