Back Story, we have an office that we operate out of. It frequently occurs that we get walk ins looking for a job. Notice I said walk ins.
We do not have a single non driving job, except for maybe me, and my wife.
When we get the walk ins our standard response is that when we are hiring, which is about every three months, the ad is posted on Craigslist under "bus stop cleaner" and that you need to answer the questions in the ad to be considered.
Had a typical walk in come in. The guy had a hard time walking, was extremely overweight, and was not very literate. He also happened to be of an ethnic origin.
When we explained to him, like every single person we have had come through our doors that past 3 years, that we only hire off of craigslist, and it is listed under bus stop cleaners, he asked my wife to write it down. Our standard answer is, if you cannot remember where to find the ad long enough to search it on Craigslist, then you probably will not be able to perform the job.
For the first time, this guy got mouthy, and started arguing. Accused us of discrimination. Claimed he was Phoenix PD seeing if we were discriminating against people, that he was going to work to take our contract from us, and that he would take it over, and on and on.
Notice to anyone applying for a job. If we tell you it is on Craigslist and that is how you apply, guess what? It is on Craigslist, and that is how you apply. We post it there for a reason, and the reason is, we want to avoid people like you.
Additionally, if you read our ad, it is designed to save EVERYONE time and energy. If you don't like the length of the ad, or you think that we require too much, then feel free to ignore it. We are trying to make the job, and its' expectations as clear as possible, so people can't say, "I didn't know that". Additionally, if you think that the pay is too low, you need to know, we also offer vacations, benefits, and paid holidays. On top of that, our guys average working about 33-34 hours a week, and get paid the full 40. So, in reality, your cost to me is about $16.00 per working for the non required stuff, you know, vacations, holidays, benefits, leaving early. That is to start. It goes up rapidly from there. Very rapidly. But if you want to take it purely at face value, well, okay.
Incidentally, when we took over this contract, EVERYONE from the previous contractor got at least a $1.00 an hour raise. Most got at least $3.00 an hour.
