Whats wrong with black

Jon,
Which Dodge truck did you get? 1500,2500,or the 3500.

The Turbo Cummings Diesel is the best bar none. My friend has a Ford diesel truck and he says that it is a real pain to start it in the cold weather even with the engine block heater plugged in.

My Cummings Diesel on the other hand starts up right away in the cold weather(OF course if the Temp is below freezing I plug in my block heater).

I don't know if the Fords are Turbo Diesel but if they aren't they should be. I would rate the Dodge Diesels #1 and maybe the ford non Diesel trucks #1.

I always loved the ford engines but nothing compares to my Cummings diesel.

John:D

where it takes several Dodges (your asking join me) to bash a Ford it Only takes one BUILDT like a ROCK and wears a BOWTIE to scare a Ford to death as the old saying for the ford Found On Road Dead, save time by calling the chevy man,he's tough as nails eats rams for snacks and keeps the hwy clean of dead fords

SORRY BIG BOY

I say Big Boys need big toys, That is a DODGE. Its time to get with the program. Trade in those Chevy's And Fords and get a DODGE. come on guys don't you know anything it's the ewe's that always follow the Ram. Don't be a follower become a leader!!!!

DODGE Leading the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only problem with the dodge diesel is that that nice little cummins is surrounded by a dodge truck. As for the Chevy's, when they get a real diesel, and they haven't yet, then maybe there will be a chance. A very, very slim chance.
FWIW, the fords are turbodiesel, and have been since 1994 and the coming of the Powerstroke, and every diesel is hard starting in the cold. It is because there are no spark plugs, all compression ignition.

my diesel is easy started in the cold guess cuzz it got plugs, glowplugs on a chevy keeps ether away, most Fords just love ether if not pulled with a dodge to start it

Err, wrong, and Bigboy you lose the $50. Fords do have glow plugs to help them start a little easier. In fact, you can wreck one of those fine Navistar motors really quick with ether. As for the Dodge pulling a Ford, You are mistaken, the Ford was pushing with a really stiff rope.:D

Hey Big Boy, you seem to be out there all alone right now. My Truck wears a bowtie with absolute Pride!!! Mine is Gas, 454, and carries 10,000 lbs., without blinking. Best truck I have ever owned. THe Ford I had I was thrilled to get rid of. :p

Now see, what I tell ya,if you'll get reed of dat ford you'd be thilled also, nothing like a little thrill every morning passing dodges wearing a bowie, and you said women wasn't smart.................mom's still looking to hang ya in the fireplace, why don't ya come home,it's xmas everybody will be there to enjoy the fire.

Dang, I was thrilled to unload my Chevy. I only have two Chevies now, one an S-10 that one of my guys uses to run a route with in the middle of the night, and the other is a two ton. It just has a little tiny industrial 350 and could not get out of it's own way without making areservation and going down hill. It is great for employees though. They don't have to tow a trailer, and it is easy to maneuver. It is actually the same length as my crew cab FORD and turns tighter. As for Mom looking for me, tell her that she needs to look out the third hole to the left of the front screen door, that is right next to the chicken coop that the riding lawn mower that looks like a 40 FORD is sitting in on the day that she is replacing the motor in the Chevy. Then maybe she might see me.

John,

My Dodge is a 97 2500, turned 100,000 couple weeks ago but added 900 miles since then.

My biggest gripe is the brakes, they lock up and I skid so often I am surprised I have not rear ended anyone yet, came close, like inches but not hit anything, YET.

I did go to full matalic brakes and they have helped greatly so the cost was worth it.

I have done modifications to mine so cannot say it is stock! It sure does pull too:)

Jon,

Are your skidding issues occurring when towing a load?? My old dodge van used to skid the front tires all the time when towing my trailer..............now, my F-250 Super Duty stops it with no problem..........even when my trailer brakes went out one time, it still stops pretty good.

Maybe you just need a bigger truck!

Mike, When your front wheel skid while you are towing, it is a sign that you have too much tongue weight on your hitch. Your load needs to be better balanced with minimal weight transfer to the rear of the towing vehicle. This also adversely affects the steering. A potential accident WEIGHTING to happen!

[color[blue]Grant this is exactly what was happening, would stop but continue moving forward but with a very slight sideways movement as in a skid, that was with the Dodge and smaller lighter trailer. Then I got the larger trailer and it still did it with half the equipment left off while I figured out how to set it up.

Once completely loaded still happened, then the new Ford, much better BUT there is still a slide, skid or whatever and only when the ground is damp or wet, never when dry.[/b]

This also adversely affects the steering. A potential accident WEIGHTING to happen!

This has not been a problem, both the Dodge and Ford never felt lighter in front when steering so doubt I need worry there.

I have weighed the trailer fully empty, loaded, partly loaded and with trailer and rear wheels of truck on scale and just the tongue of trailer so I could get tongue weight.

Only time I am fully over weight, (trailer, not me!) is when fully loaded and that means reclaim tank and both tanks. I never do that and only carry both tanks full for one location that has no water close by.

So Sir Grant what is the reason for my skidding?

Jon,
What is your tongue weight? I believe it should be somewhere in the 180-220 lbs range. You can use a bathroom scale just dont let the wife see you using it for that!

When there is too much weight on the tongue, it physically lifts weight off of the front wheels. The more weight on the tongue, the less weight on the front.

I was having the same problem and solved it by adding air shocks to the rear of my truck.

One other possibility, though not likely in this case, is the the front calipers can sometimes "stick", causing the front brakes to lock-up...especially when weight has been shifted to the rear.

I had a 99 Chevy c-2500 and it was a total piece of crap. By 52,000 miles and a year and a half it went through 4 sets of front pads, front rotors, ac compressor went out, powersteering and brake assist broke at 18,000, tires at 20,000(because the car like a-arm suspension cant handle a load and maintain an alignment) what a piece of junk. I also had a major power loss in the 454 engine. Now I have a 2002 F-250 V-10 with a 4.30 rear end. It has been a great truck! I have 2,345 lbs. in the bed and tow a 5,000 lb trailer without brakes and the brakes in front are still half good. You can't convince me a Chevy is better. And Dodge's are just a joke. Tell me why don't very many large construction companies use Dodge trucks? Or Chevy for that matter.

Ford is the only way to go. I work on fleets and most mechanics will tell you that the diesel engines put into small trucks are not worth the metal they are made out of. Stick with the gas engines they go 200,000 with minimal maintenence. Besides the new Ford diesel needs an oil change every 3,000 miles with a 50 dollar filter to maintain the warranty.

When I went to the NJ Roundtable meeting last week I got 20.5 MPG in my Dodge Dually Cummins Diesel 3500. If I had your truck I would be lucky if I got 10mpg. Also when I pull my Trailer with all the Equipment which also weighs about 5000lbs and my 465 gal water tank full in the bed of my truck(aprox 4000lbs) I still get over 11mpg. If I had your truck I would be in the poor house with its 5 mpg.

How do I know this....Because I had a Ford Gas engine Pickup and the MPG Sucked.

That Aside Fords are still very good trucks. Better then Chevy's in my opinion. But we all know the only thing better then a Ford Diesel(The best of the Fords) is the Dodge CUMMINS DIESEL. Hands down.;)
