No brushing, we apply our sodium hypochlorite/surfactant solution and let it dwell. Then, we gently remove all saturated lichens with a fresh water rinse. We apply & rinse one more time after physical debris is removed. Saturate both sides of the material and give it some time to penetrate for best results.

Good information to know I was curious if SH had any ill effects on a canvas awning.

saturation and dwell time is definitely a key factor.

hey tim,
do you softwash aluminum awnings?

Yes, there isn't much that we can't softwash with great results.
most of the the aluminum awnings i have had to clean were extremely bad. i have tried different cleaning mixes but pressure was still needed, otherwise the dwell time would have been way too long.

Quality surfactants and proper chem ratios will break the most stubborn stains loose with little rinsing effort. Pressure washing also works good, we just do it this way.

sh doesnt work on the undersides of an aluminum awning a degreaser is definitely needed. like tim said the right chems and surfactants get the job done.

It won't bleach them but it will destroy the waterproofing in the canvas ones.

Do you think the solutions break the waterproofing down or that pressure cleaning removes it. We have done the same ones more than a few times and haven't seen or heard of any problems. I would like to know more about it. I have a buddy that builds and installs them, I'll see what he thinks.

It CAN
Always do a small test spot inside the awning first :)
