what constitutes a hack and when does someone goe from hack to novice?

might want to search "low baller" or maybe even "hack" on here. You'll get quite an education.

Basically, IMO a hack is someone:

that tries to perform any type of service for another person that he has neither the knowledge, experience, training, in and for or the proper equipment to perform. Whether they charge for it or not.

When do you go from a hack to a novice?: Again IMO, When the professional that is training, teaching, and educating you says you have.

ANd Hack's are not just limited to the Pressure Cleaning Industry.

Steven is all seriousness most here have different thoughts on Hacks.

Low ballers and Hacks can be different.

A hack is someone who is doing sub standard work regardless of charges. I have seen hacks charge double what i charge and mess the property up.

Low baller to me is a guy who doesn't know the bottom line. He might be someone with a nest egg burning through it or a wife that supports him. Someone who thinks because they do not have the normal expenses a full time guy has they think they can charge less thus lower the average pricing down for the rest of us.

Some just think hacks and Low ballers are guys like me who work cheap but they cant figure out how my production rate is over a 100 per man.

Understand these terms are meaningless to you if your educate yourself and establish a rate at which you can work reasonable and profitable in your market.
 
Thanks for the serious answer Ron. I have been readng this forum for almost two months and for a month i have been experimenting with the unit i bought. i am still lineing up the right equipment and getting the bugs out of the equipment I have. i have been working on this project for 8 weeks and still havent done a job yet. I lined up a couple of houses that i am gonna wash for free. when the time is right i will take the chance and try one, believe me when i say this,I WANT TO DO QUALITY WORK. But i have to start somewhere.

Quality work always pays off...
 
It would be a good idea to go travel a few hours and train with a company that posts here or on one of the other bbs's and offer free labor in return for teaching you how to do house washing and other types of cleaning.

This would shorten the learning curve a lot and you would not be experimenting on anyone's property.

You will learn what chemicals to use, how to use your equipment, etc...

What you will learn will be worth many, many, many times what it cost you to go there and learn.
