X-jet

I like the idea someone mentioned about using more hose for the X-Jet. With 50 feet of hose, you should be able to do two sides of a typical house without moving your bucket. As a result, you only have to move the bucket once.

Everyone has their preferences, and naturally you need to do what you feel comfortable with. The only problem I had with the X-Jet the first time I used it was tipping over the chem bucket with my washer hose. That I will alleviate by using a closed bucket so IF I happen to do that again, I will not be losing a few gallons of chemicals.

What WOULD be nice is if Xterior would come up with a way to quick-connect the close-in tip so you don't have to keep screwing it in and out if you need to switch frequently. I tried adding a QC connector to the X-Jet and the tip, and the draw rate was severely affected.

Maybe they already have something like that and I'm just not aware of it.

When I'm using the x-jet, I prepare 3 or 4 buckets of cleaner and set them on a couple of sides of the house and go to work. I use out of one then when I get stretched from that one I move my supply hose to the other. When I'm to go to the other half of the house I combine the buckets and move. It works good and i'm not move buckets as much.

We just set up QD's on our 5 gallon pail and X-Jet. It was a pain to screw the top on & off with the hose attached or removing and attaching the hose. We were using the proportioner, but having to remove the hose to take it out and install it, etc. is also a pain. I created a chart for different ratios from the open position so the proportioners are not necessary now.

Have not re-tested the draw rate with the QD's - I'm sure there will be an impact as the hose is 3/8" ID and the QD's are 1/4" - althought the fitting entering the X-Jet is a 3/8" barb to 1/8 MPT - We'll see what happens.

The 5 gallon was mainly used for stronger mixes for cleaning heavy stains / mold & mildew or smaller siding sections.
We use a couple 20 gallon set-ups and drop the hose in, secure to handle. The 50 ft hose does minimize the number of times you move the tank. One other thing we did was purchase a lightweight handcart - a collapsable, fold-up aluminum unit ($40) - does make a difference. They also have a carbon composite foll size hand cart that is also very light weight.

if you want to carry chems

on your back......you want to see mr allan and ask him whether he would do it again before you go down that route.....

i was looking at that very7 same handcart last friday £49 trade or £59 retail +vat....this is what gets under my skin what costs about £35 in the states costs nearly double over here....we get taken for a ride over here big time.

Its not that I can't get the results I want it just takes to much extra work to drag around a bucket of chem or my 15 gallon drum on the hand cart. The first time I tried it I said nope nope nope this aint working. I just mix the chem in the tank on my trailer instead of the drum and pull the 100ft of hose out connected to the Flo-Jet. that hose goes everywhere my washer hose goes minus the bucket or hand cart. And the Flo-Jet wand has a 25 degree tip on it so I can cover alot of area fast. If the chemical is not strong enough with the XJ you have to chage colors for a higher chemical draw and that takes time I just cut back the water I have metered in.

I'm glad you're happy with that set up, but I'm having a hard time seeing how dragging 100 foot of shur flo hose around, getting caught on trees, shrubs, mulch, etc and all that can possibly be easier and less time consuming then carrying a simple 5 gallon bucket and a few feet of hose..........? I urge you to revisit this issue sometime in the future............I think you just didnt give yourself enough of a chance to adjust to it. The bucket can be cumbersome when its full, but when you get to the next side of the house, its half full and not so hard to drag around.

Also, I never use the proportioners for the xjet, I always use it full strengh, and just dillute my cleaners if I want less.

How does your 25 degree tip spray cleaner on the top of a 2 and a half story gable? If you say extension wand, then you're wasting time..............I guarantee it.

Try the bucket! :)

My opinion only.

Like I said in page one at the beginning of the conversation "The only time I would use this thing is to reach the peaks of tall houses."

And its really not bad dragging the hose around from the Flo-Jet setup. I have to drag the washer hose too so I just pick them both up and take off to the spot where I will be washing, its not like I have to drag one then the other.

I might have to give it a little time Mike. I'm not dead set on not using it. I'm always trying to find better ways to do things.

Does the X-jet have a tip that will provide uniform coverage of the surface? I know the immitation I use shoots out in to pretty much a straight line. The 25degree tip on my Flo-Jet provides nice uniform coverage. I'd like to see (and use) the real deal. Maybe I need to go check out the site for some literature on this product. What site is it sold on?

Mike,

The X-Jet comes with a 3/8" barb to barb plastic ball valve (like Steven pointed out). We put ours about 2ft from the X-Jet.
You don't have to disconnect the X-Jet when rinsing, just shut off the valve - if you want to disconnect, then you may need a valve between the QD and the X-Jet to keep from sucking air.

We attach the X-Jet with close-up attachment to a 24 ft extension wand from time to time to give precise control of the spray in areas that have large louvered vents on the ends of the house. This keeps us from flooding the attic and also allows the low proportion (1:1.8 and up) applications on heavy mold & mildew areas.

VAT is the equivalent of the U.S. tax.

I purchased the aluminum hand cart at Home Depot - it weighs 9 pounds.

vat is what paul said...we pay 171\2 % vat on everything but food and kids clothes.....i have just paid vat on £8,000.....my xjet just went out of the window with that but things are picking up and i hope to get one soon :) .

cheers paul.

paul b nice to have you back after your sabbatical.

ron p/paul /new x-jet users

im not 100% sure but i think Ron Strickland has started to sell the x-jet's with a 1/4 inc hose barb and 1/4 inc line. Also because of the lower cost of the smaller line, he started to include the close range tip.
I tried replaceing my 3/8ths line with 1/4 inc and dont like it.
I think it kill's the draw rate.
Some dont.
Just wanted to share.

www.xterior.com and lots of distributors sell them. They offer a "close range attachment" which does give a better spray pattern, but is really only effective on the first floor.

The only suggestion I have for creating more uniform coverage would be to stand a little farther away and spray slower........I think that might give a more even coat of cleaner on the house.

Paul-UK - Thanks!
It's good to be back and to see familiar and new faces.

I guess I can put in my two cents. I didn't want to pay the $100 + for the x-jet, so I made my own. I just bought a in-line soap injector and put a 1/4 male QC end on it, and a 1/8" hose barb on the other end. It works like a charm, I use it on just about everything. I can adjust the amount of soap, just by turning the adjuster. I did find that going with the longer hose was a good idea, I didn't like carrying the bucket around either. If it would work with a 200' hose I would use that, LOL. Oh and it cost me about $25.
