What can be the ramifications?

Everyone has their own comfort level with any type of marketing. Some guys especially one with the initials RM would feel OK with stenciling the front door of the White House. The weird part is he'd probably get the contract.

That is probably very true! hahahahaha

Others feel unsolicted bids are too aggressive.

I can cold call commercial all day. I would never feel comfortable door knocking residential.

Do what you feel comfortable with and pass on the rest.

It's great to get opinions. It makes you take a look at your own.

Plus Larry I have the paper clip.

It all depends on your comfort level.

I would be wary of stenciling someones property. If you do ten and get one account and one negative you probably have at least three that are mad enough to tell others who will tell others. This shotgun marketing will work somewhat but a demonstration in front of the manager or owner with permission would generate more sales. We have been in business for over thirty years. I have done demos of cleaning but always in front of a decision maker. If they see you do it then that will increase your chances by at least 50%. Of course I think why use a stencil when you can clean a square and give them the option to continue. I know you are thinking free advertising but if I ownd the restaurant I would find it self serving.

At this point I would tally it like this - Of those who have done it and spoken about it, it seems overwhelmingly positive and effective - Those against it haven't done it. We have yet to hear someone say they did it and had bad results.

One thing everyone is missing is the question was what could be the ramifications? You could get sued, you could be charged with vandalism, you could get shot, you could get charged with trespassing, you could lose a customer for life. Oh yeah or you could get a job. I don't have a problem with others doing stenciling. Its none of my business. I am just posting my opinion.

That is a good one, very funny! hahahahaha

I havent made my stencil yet but i just go up do a demo from the curb to the front door. leaves a big withe clean streak with no gum. then i talk price, term, etc. they can realy see the diff. in the long 15' x 28' strip and will see how long it stays clean and if their guy comes in to clean I know i can get it cleaner and it happened once already. the guy came in and cleaned the place 1 week after i had done the demo. the gm called me and said that my demo still is whiter than what the guy cleaned. and i got 3 stores off it.

LOL....

Its pretty easy guys, dont do it if you dont want to or think its not right for you.

We could a argue the fact all day long its good, no its bad. This is Why............

I have to tell you that for every person that thought it was bad theres 1000 that think its a great marketing tool. Some have even thanked me for explaining that the level should be higher and that they had not been getting the service this stencil represents.

I have tons or stories and many testomonys. I will wouldnt trade them or allow anyone to stop my stencils.

I will be honest about this, I have warned many of you that this is a delicate subject. You should get permission from the property owners. You should never do them without it.

Then you asked what I do, i told you the truth. I never told you too do what I do. I said in ever statement please get persmission, I'm crazy!!!!!!!

And I have cleaned up Ron's stencils. Or at least one... Just like anything, there are pro's and con's. I am not that type of aggressive personality. It is not my style. So, I don't do it. Will I? I might get a stencil made to use for demonstrations, though I have good luck without. I can think of a few occasions where I did a demonstration that I should have used a stencil.

Scott that raises another point, how many times have i stenciled to just stimulate someone else doing the work. I know this happens because they tell us thanks but we have a guy and we called him.

I really dont mind that you or another guy got the work as long as the work is being done.

I find it funny when I read all these post about attempting to put all competition out of business. I understand we would rather have the business than someone else, but IMHO QUALITY competition is healthy and beneficial for business. It is the hacks that we all need to run out of business.

I would definently have to agree. I have no problem to losing an account or a bid to someone who does just as good of quality work.

I don't have a problem with others stenciling. I was just stating what could happen. Ron if you walked out of your house tommorow and a painter had painted his stencil on your truck to show you haw bad it would need painted what would you do? Or what if you came outside and a guy had trimmed half of your tree, mowed some of your lawn? Well I guess mowing the grass is not a good example. Ha You know what I mean. I know hood cleaners that show their "badge" to inspect hoods. If it works I agree do it. By the way you can try to stencil after me anytime. There is not a unit built that will clean as well as the machines we run...

Someone has already been through the system for this with a positive result in their favor. Its a public place of business so no trespassing, and with the turnover of managers I have no problem having a few upset with me because they will be gone in a few months with another goof running the show.

These are my own opinions and are not the representation of the entire stencil mafia

"Oh, and Mr. Customer did you say that your PW contractor washed the walks just last week? Well, he must be a hack, and I'm not a hack -- just ask anyone at PWI, they'll tell you! And even though you already have a PW contractor, I'm a professional and I have a Landa and it is my responsibility to show you exactly why you made a poor decision rather than sitting down and explaining to you why I'm better, well, I just prefer to take the easy way out and instead of looking you in the eye and asking for the order, well, I'll show you.
"And, Mr. Customer, I understand that you gave the busines to the guy who had the balls, initiative and sales skills to earn your business in the first place. But I'm not a hack like the cold water guy is, so I trespassed on your property in the dead of night, long after you had gone home for the night, to show you how good I am, how dumb you are for hiring the other guy, and in the process sorry if I embarassed you in front of your manager/owner/employees who had to pass the really cool stencil I just bought. See, all that is cool 'cuz I'm a professional and its my job to show you how wrong you are and I have a Landa and I'm tired of losing work to this guy because he uses cold and, well, forget it...
"Anyway, I'm glad I didn't damage anything while I was there, because my insurance agent might get mad at me and he might be right because I really ought to spend more time doing personal selling and selling quality over price, but sometimes I just go to the PWI board and post videos because I get so damn mad and because this guy is terrible and I'm not a hack and he is a hack and doesn't have a Landa.
"So anyway, hope to earn your business!"

He is the Victim, must have been stenciled before and not noticed it when rinsing off the drive-thru
