Watch your chem ratios! W/ Case Study

So after getting gutter cleaning ideas from the Chemistry section I did a case study.-- and a bad one at that.

I heard varying reviews on Mean Green, Simply Awesome from Everything's A Dollar store, and spray power.

From the reviews they all have worked on gutters so I read the label and went to work.

Trial Test:

I taped off 3-5 foot sections of my gutters and labeled them with MG (Mean Green), SA (Simply Awesome) [ cut by half with H2O] and SP (Spray Power) on painters tape.

The working from left to right I sprayed straight MG on section 1 and scrubbed back and forth 10 times using stiff brush.

Section 2= SA & same cleaning frequency

Section 3=SP & same cleaning frequency

let them all sit for exactly 1 minute

Rinsed with water hose.

Results:

MG= visible horizontal streaks
SA= No streaks present
SP= visible horizontal streaks

Eureka! [ I thought] Dollar store cleaner beat them all so in my excitement I ripped of the painters tape, sprayed the rest with SA and scrubbed away the black marks---AND THE PAINT ON THE GUTTER! ---

As my jaw hit the rung of the ladder my ratios must have been WAY to strong or I used the wrong applicator instead of a tile sponge or something less abrasive.

So long story short I actually finished my gutters with spray power.. but learned a valuable lesson. Never take chemical ratios lightly!:banghead:

I'll post photos later.

Search other areas of this forum, not just the chemical section as people don't always put things in certain areas.

Instead, just search for gutters, gutter cleaning, gutter brushing, gutter chemicals, etc....... and you will see many, many years of posts to read about.

I have always had great luck with F-13 from PressureTek. That is the only thing I use for gutters and you don't need much to do the job.

There are many, many years of great info here in the forums on this site.

good thing they were your gutters huh lol. La awesome does work. I use it sometimes ( well alot actualy ) and never had a problem. we all need to learn the correct ratios on all our chems we use. they are hardly ever the same for every service we perform. some need more some need less.

Simply Awsome works great diltued at 5 parts water to 1 part SA. I first spray my downstream housewash mix and wait a few minutes then my tech starts brushing the Awsome on the gutters. Don't let it dry. I usually rinse and brush twice on nasty gutters. It works great and I've never stripped paint.

Here are some gutters we cleaned today with Simply Awsome. Finally remembered to do some b/a pics on some recent gutters.

Those look great. and your using simply awesome !!! I have never seen dirty gutters that looked like that. Those are uiniformly dirty.What makes them look like that? most I see is just the zebra stripes.

These sort of had the tiger stripes covered by the heavier stain on top! I see this often. Strange thing is sometimes just the housewash mix will take care of this. Not in this case though. These took a l lot of tlc.

My uncle got me a sample bottle once. It did a good job but I never bought any more. I think I'll give it a try again. I did strip off paint with F13 once not following the mix ratio . Oops. Good thing the house was getting painted.
