To the vets!! What has made you successful?

Great response Russ!!!

There are a lot of great people here that will give advice if you just listen.

There are guys here that are at the top of their game and are doing incredible things but there are people that just mock others, comment with disbelief and just don't want to grow or think outside the box, that is why they are not doing too good most of the time.

Russ, Ron, and others have given great advice, tips and new ideas of getting work and seeing what they have done, are doing and will be doing, it would be wise to just listen and give it a try.

Russ, and everyone else is wrong. If I listened to everyone, I would have packed in 15 years ago. I had multiple people tell me that there was no way I could be successful or provide a living for my family doing what I do. Now the same people are coming to me for business advice. That gives me a giggle.

So, as a modification to what Russ said, Pick people that are trying to build you up to listen to, because it is far too easy to find someone to tear you down.

Great point Scott!

So far.
1. Listen
2. Listen to everyone. But be able to sort out those those that talk the talk from those that walk the walk.

All the above and also be willing to work as smart and hard as you can. Also keep the attitude in your head that you refuse to fail. Networking thru these bulletin boards/Roundtables and Organizations is also beneficial because you will connect with many people that have similar interest and dreams that you do.

TALK about your buisness to anyone that will listen!!!!

Dont sell yourself short!!!

ALWAY"S go the extra mile, you will stand out!!

It's all about persistance and being around the right people as you grow as well. Surrounding yourself by people that share your vision and building on what other successful people have done.

You have to want it and make sacrifices to get it as it just won't walk in the door one day. Once your established things start to get a bit easier but it's alot of hard work none-the-less. At 34 (in biz since 1996) we have 4 crews running and do some good business but I'm nowhere near where I dream to be one day. Baby steps....

Sounds like me, except I am OLD and started in 2001

Greg is right on, if you are like him & me you want to always grow your business, which means you always work hard at growing your biz. I sometimes spend hours and days researching looking for PM's and then target them with mailings, faxes, phone calls and more. Sometimes I slack, when I do I feel like I am failing myself and my dream. I have to make sure quality & service stays right up there and have my crews do the same. My crews are good, but its not their business, so you always have to stay on top of things. You can't let any aspect of your business slack. Seems like hard work, but my business is one of the most enjoyable parts of my life, next to my family. I can't even call what I do work,When I worked for other people that was WORK, this is fun

First and foremost is basic customer appreciation. Customer service is the absolute most important thing you can provide,..without them you're nothing. Customer appreciation leads to repeat work and referrals galore. Treat customers as you'd like to be treated as when you're the customer. Do the little things that aren't expected of you,, like throwing in the sidewalk here and there, or cleaning a small shed,... also make the call when you're running late,..etc....

Scott, i think he ment listen to the customer.

All great Advice,

My biggest advice is do it,, stop talking about it and take it and run.

Most on the BBS want someone else to magically put accounts in there hands.

We can only give you advice, Russ, Scott Nick and others here do that. they go after and get what they have.

Best thing I ever did was go to school. Business school. Some things will just come easier with the right know how.
