The Best Liquid Dishsoap For Roof Cleaning

This is one of the most helpful threads for any new roof washer I have seen on any forum. Most of the companies in my area are pw roofs because they think that is the only way to get the thick carpet we have out here off. I see it all the time. No wonder the roofing companies work OT...
I learned how to chemically clean roofs in Seattle, a long time ago. Many roofs were wood shake, and pressure could blow them apart. We used to take a paint roller dipped in roof cleaning chemicals attached to a long wooden pole, and "paint the roof shingles" with this device.
Do not laugh, we did not have roof cleaning pumps back then, and I cleaned many a roof this way.

Wow...How about a power paint roller attachment for a LP system for various jobs?...........hmmmmmmm? Could sell

And this is how the "roll wash" revolution is born.

LOL, back when I first posted about my paint roller for cleaning roofs experiences, this was thought of.
They were calling it the "Apple Stick"
But you are totally correct, IF a chlorine/water fed telescoping pole could be developed, with a roller applicator, many roofs could be done safely from the ground!

Very good read. This is a great thread on roof cleaning

Thanks Dan, sorry if there hasn't been many updates to this. One of our roof cleaners at the RCIA has been using Liquid Joy. I kind of "scolded him" for it, because I tried Liquid Joy many years ago, and it did not seem very SH Compatible.
However, he insisted it worked good, and he lives up in Canada, and can not buy the Liquid Gain Ultra Dishsoap where he lives.
So, based on what he told me, I had another look at the MSDS Sheet for Liquid Joy Dishsoap. Sure enough, it is also SH Compatible!
You may want to try it ? Some of the roof cleaners I know like it, because it is not as "sudsy" as Gain is.

I for one like more suds. The visual of "the cleaning action" that it creates sometimes leaves a customer or potential customer (neighbor watching) that your mix must be special. It also provides a way for me to see if I'm getting the mix on plants and what-not so I can be sure I rinse everything well.

Personally, I like Suds too, and customers especially do! They also like to see the dried roof cleaning mix foam up and make Suds too, during the rain.
However, it is a mistake I made once, judging the cleaning power of any soap, by how much it makes Suds!

Let's examine TSP. It is a surfactant, and has little to no suds. However, it's cleaning power is unchallenged by any soap/surfactant I know of.

I use 2 bottles of gain per 50 gallons of mix. Sometimes roof snot as well. When you start paying over 100 for chemicals it eats your profit.

Theres a fine line between spending pointless money and increasing profits.

Plus, Liquid Gain Ultra Original Scent Dishsoap is always there, when you need it.
However, products like The Roof Snot and The Green Wash also have their place.
Every job, every roof is different.

I agree with you.
