Speed-up the board

There are times when the board is slow, but has gotten better since the new format. I have a cable moden and the load speed has picked up lately.

Tim, IT LIVES. How are ya?

Busy, Busy, & Busy. How your boys - Are they both back in the USA?

Hows the wood restoration business? I've done 17 Log Homes this season - Wish I had stock in Ready Seal. haha I've been using a mixture of 3 gallons of Natural Cedar to 2 gallons of Light Brown - an idea I got from you several years ago - Awesome Finish look on pine & cedar - Thanks.... I ran across your business card in my files just last week - Nice to hear from you. If you ever down this way - give me a holler - I cook you some fried chicken, fried potatos, and corn on the cob (field sweet corn). I also have garden tomatos and cucumbers. Give me a call.

Oh yeah - I saw a picture of a deck that you posted on another board not long ago - Looked Sharp..........Also seen your gazebo on the ready seal label/flyer. see you soon.

The boys are safe and sound. the youngest has returned from Iraq and decided he had had enough of the Army. He got out after doing his 4 years. The other son is now a Captain in the AF and his plane rotates back over there every 4 months or so. He is there now, but will be back in Omaha early next month.

The business is doing great. Only had one big headache this season with a deckbuilder using bad wood. Tried to blame me for knots falling out after a light wash and seal. Still pending.

Thanks for the offer, I will be heading that way some time in the next few months. Got to put some miles on the Harley for sure.

Take care, stay in touch.

What causes wood knots to fall-out? I've had wood knots fall-out, when using HD80 on cedar. I thought it was the chemical, but the decks were all old. Any opinions?

Thanks Justin, where you been?

Tim,

I went to the usforestry website and did extensive research on this. Knots falling out are a combination of the surround wood of the knot being of a different density than the knot. The Knots fiber are tighter than surrounding wood, thus are more apt to "let go" because of natural loss of cohesive properties due to swelling and shrinkage. You are more apt to see this on old wood. According to US Forestry labs, bicarb cleaners are the chemical of choice for cleaning wood and Oxalix has no effect other than reducing tannin and getting rid of nail/iron stain. Here's the link to the site. Great source of info. http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/

grants logo is 42.2kb...it was700kb or something like that(12months ago) i resized it and optomised it for the web.....hence loss of clarity....it does its job and is built for speed.

paul.

Paul, I owe you a cold one! Oh wait...your in Wales, I owe you a warm one!!!

thanks grant...but i still owe you from when you came over last time with all the info and magazines you gave me....still get them out and reread them even now....nothing like that over here...i was even thinking of joining the pwna just so i could get the" cleaner times" sent to me lol.

anytime grant.....cheers paul.

Since you enjoyed them so much, I'll try to remember to send you some more.

Fellas, it's not your photos or your avatars or the signatures on the board that's slowing it down. It's piss poor servers. Other boards run fine with much larger graphics and banners and so on.

We've complained and complained, was the server changed?

Good Point Justin,

I read the post Ron made and I think his answer explains why the bbs is so slow. He doesn't know what he's talking about. It's not some guys logo or some large attachments. It the un-willingness to pay for good equipment. PWN has more graphics, posts, members logos, traffic and what ever else and is the fastest on net.

That's because we maintain it and upgrade the equipment as needed. You get what you put into things. These type of forums are ran on a database and I've been on forums will 500 people viewing at the same time with a million posts and files / photos that were 1 mb or more. That were very fast.

Stop with the bull and give your members a better bbs they deserve it. If I can remember correctly Ron runs this off his computer at home. That's your problem in a nut shell!

Happy Holidays :)

LOL, Dan if you think this runs off my home computer you are mistaken again.

One avitar or picture cannot slow bbs down, your right. Many can thats why your bbs has restrictions and only allows so much. fuctions are also turned off. PWI is open and the entire data can be searched.

Please Dan go live your life some other place. You never have any positive things to say.

your alway trying to pick a fight or tell someone they are stupid. Please......

I don't have time to worry about your bbs or this one. just keep yours running smooth and they will all go elsewhere anyway.

Have a great day.

Hey Dan,
Ron and the others run a professional forum here. They may have had growing pains, but things are moving forward. As for your site being more graphic intensive, I am not sure I agree. I do agree that having the right hardware behind you is important, so is maintenance. Ron and many others deserve kudos for running this BBS as a neutral place to post as you like.

Beth

I second that.........

With the improvement of the board and the new PWNA non member thing - maybe traffic will increase. This is a great opportunity to target the "Newbies" and the older people who may have posted here in the past who are looking for a new home.
