Speed-up the board

I know this is beating a dead horse, but this board is by far the slowest around. I would love to post more, but its so frustrating to wait. I timed it, it took me 3 minutes and 43 seconds to be able to post this thread - thats not counting what it will take to submit this thread.

Bottom line - (Customer Service) - why post and deal with the frustrations, when theres a ton of boards that are fast.

I keep trying, because I believe in this board over all the rest. Not even two years ago - this board was the hot stuff - leading the industry in all boards. This boards still offers a product thats better than all others - a place where you can express your opinion on products without stepping on the owner's product line - I love that. I'll try again in a week or two.
 
Just for the record - it took 43 seconds for it to post after hitting the "Post Quick Reply" button.

Sorry, don't mean to complain - I just really like this board and hate to see it take second or third to other boards.
 
I was made aware of this problem (thanks Grant), but I am not having any speed issues right now (1:51pm Monday).

Anyone else having trouble?

This is a puzzling problem that keeps happening here. Right now this bb is working smoothly for me but yesterday was another story as I'm sure tomorrow or the next day will be. I wish I was computer savvy so I could help out here.

Puzzling doesn't even begin to describe it!
I have a cable broadband connection that runs at a steady 2.46mbit download speed, and occasionally PWI will take up to a minute to load the index page. At the same time I can still load TGS, PWNA and others in split seconds. I am no computer expert, but it seems that the server for PWI is fairly solid and usually delivers great speed but the occassional speed drops according to the Jelsoft website can be attributed to board maintenance issues (specifically archiving). This time I sent Mike an e-mail and shortly thereafter the speed was back to norm.
Mike, did you do something to speed up the site or was it something else?
 
Alot of this is neglect to comply with banner size and increases in photo sizes. Now do we want to have photos larger than other sites. the banner and html thats allowed is being abused. Tim And Grants banners are to large. I cannot resize them because i no longer have access to do so. Mike will not, and many have these issues. If other bbs allowed this they would be in the same shoes.

Often the site moves slower but it is larger than others and allows full fuctions. many others have deleted and have made post non- serachable.

These are decisions that need to be made. Posts that are crap need to be addmistarted and deleted. the problem is one person cannot follow content and move all post where they belong. Its not possible and its frankly impossible. So????????? What should we do instead of talking about it. Allow people to admin or turn off fuctions and become Like the rest.

Lets face it some dont even realize the freedom difference, Frankly I'm exausted talking about this. lets do something.
 
My banner is the same on others and no problems. Heck - make it small.


I never receive notices when someone replies to my thread or If someone replies to a thread after I reply. Maybe every four times or so, I will receive a notice by email.


I won't complain again about the board or speed. If the grocery store does not have your brand of milk - go to the next one. Thats Competition.
 
I will remove my banner until I can figure out how to resize it!
 
Wow! the board is faster now! Was my banner causing all the problems??
 
Tim, I made your banner smaller over a year ago and you insisted on making it big again...........after first telling me it was no big deal. I let it go because I enjoy your posts and figured it could be overlooked.

Grant and I were working on his banner on Monday.........but for some reason I can't downsize it without losing clarity.
 
I also notice this board being a little slow. I would think that it has something to do with the server. All servers are different and Mike if you've had this board on the same server for the past few years, it may be time to change the server or have a dedicated server for this.

I also notice the slowness over the past 2 years of being here. It's been mentioned before in the past and it's fast at times and slow at other times. I, like many others, like this board better than the other out there.

Mike, let us know if there is anything we all can do to help with the speed. As far as banners, what difference does the size of the contractors banners really make. I mean, how many of the contractors customers are really on this site looking for the banners or the size of the contractors logo? To me, this forum is more for the communication than it is for the advertising of each of the contractors businesses. Just my opinion.

You are right, but I didn't realize that it would slow the board down or effect the board in anyway - please feel free to make it smaller. I appreciate you allowing it to go last year - didn't realize the affect that it would have on the board.

Whats your address to your new board? I would like to visit it.

Thats better, but why cant it be more clear then that? Usually when you make something smaller you gain clarity. Just wondering........
