Some months ago, I explained that this was happening....

This is coming from a different direction completely but there is a steady and growing (keep it up Obama!) movement for the states to say enough! We make the rules in our state. Things like the feds have 'empowered' and the feds have 'allowed' will hopefully be gone. Hopefully the laughable idea of 'revenue stream' or any other magic federal funding will be over soon. Really, where is this federal funding coming from? Is Arizona stickin it to Idaho? Just a little dream, but Texas is refusing federal money - now if a state decides to withold money....

I hear you Tom...unfortunately that is the reality for at least today.

It is interesting to me to see what everyones feelings and understanding of the BMP's are in regards to stormwater. Curious, but interesting.

So many of you are worried about low ballers, and people doing hack work, yet, you refuse to see the possibilities of something that could really make a company an elite contractor. You want to keep the cost of doing business so low, so that you can make a maximum profit, which is fine, but you do not see the things that can, and will, propel you over the top to being a contractor that is in constant demand. Those same low costs that you are wanting for yourself are the same low costs that let every knucklehead out there declare himself a professional pressure washer, with his home depot rig, and be in direct competition with you, for beer money.

Do I think that the reg's are getting out of hand, but also see a need for the same regulations to a certain extent. The key is fair and rational. What can be accomplished by a large part of the contractors, with minimal expense. At this point, we do not have the political clout of the "sierra clubs" and "greenpeaces" of the world, because we have not spent the years that they have buildign the political relationships. We see how little science has to do with environmental concerns, with the recent global warming debacle, and it does bleed over to the Clean Water Act, with the same political influences.

Bravo +10

Carlos and Scott.... Well written......All I have to say is well written.

Great, we all agree that it needs to be fair and not ridiculous like the last Seven or eight written in the past by PWNA members. Now they are changed by muni's and the end result was contractors suffered.

QC will change also, Im certain one day someone with a brain will figure out what they did was extreme an cannot be accomplished. Maybe they already have been changed?

All in All Jim we just dont need folks here worried about them not in complience. They shuould seek that at there local and state levels. You are an elite contractor working in a special sistutation.

Scott, here you are talking about two different business plans. One is Jim's. One is Ron's. Both are successful. But by this post you would prefer to lean toward regulation that would force Ron to move toward Jim's business plan.

Why? To remove hacks? We remove hacks every day by doing a better job.

I have a lift. It makes us fast. It makes us able to work at night. It eliminates the need for a manager to be on property for us to do our work. That was our choice and it gets us a lot of business. If I were thinking like you are I'd start talking to the government about how many people die from ladder falls every year and trying to get legislation outlawing ladders to eliminate the "hackers" who aren't willing to spent the $40k on a lift. (They must not be "serious" contractors)

As I've stated before. Removing competition using the heavy hand of the government is IMMORAL and is the reason this country is in the mess it is in now!

Somebody needs to stand up as a group and fight. And from these posts it doesn't look like it's going to be Carlos and the UAMCC. They are too worried about eliminating competition through "reasonable" regs rather than opening up free competition regulated by survival of the fittest.

What's happened to the testosterone in this country? Where is the inward desire to work harder, smarter and faster to beat the competition. Have we all become so effeminate that we can only beat the competition by forcefully removing them though regulation?

Somebody stand up.

BRAVO..... That's the truth of the matter. The EPA is just another fat government bureaucracy. The truth is, we all work in the real world, not some tree huggers' fantasy of utopia. Almost every other industry relies on survival of the fittest, not survival of the richest. I'd really like to see some HARD FACTUAL EVIDENCE that cosmetic cleaning practices are a major contributor to water pollution. It's all about squeezing money out of whoever they can to keep the bureaucracy fat. Oh, in case the gov't spies are reading....I recover all the time.

Tony, you make some very compelling arguments. Keep questioning "Big Brother"

Didn't you know..... Tony was living in California when there was a movement here (in N. California) against the " Big Brother".

Rainbow colors and pink shirts was the in thing in those days.

LOL LOL LOL Still have those pictures of your past life. EEK. LOL LOL LOL

Come on Jim, don't tell people about your obsession with Tony and how you have pictures of him all over in your house, truck and garage. Some friend envy but I think that you are taking it a little bit too far, some might think that there is a little more than regular friend "love" going on.
hahahahahahahahahahaha j/k

Have a nice day Jim, don't stare too hard at those pictures. hahahahaha

I didnt read that, you have to remember Scott is a parking garage guy. He knows this need to be reclaimed and that top dollar is what he wants to do this. I dont blame him or Jim for this.

I blame Jim for giving guys hope this will happen in our industry. It will kill our industry of sidewalk cleaning.

Nice opionion of the gov. we all see and do nothing.

Too true. Although there are some grass roots movements that have recently been standing up to the insanity that has become our government. When our lawmakers are passing life changing legislation without reading the bills they vote for, we all lose. 2010 will see a sea change in the house and senate from p.o.'ed taxpayers. In other words "throw da bums out!!".

Tony, I also question how they can hand out an NPDES permits to industrial users, and spank the little guy for for a few gallons. Ripe with hypocrisy.

Now why do you say that Ron ? ... You and I have discussed this in GREAT DETAIL and you have seen multiple posts that I have said THE FOLLOWING...

I DO NOT SUPPORT FILTERING FROM PRESSURE WASHING OF SIDEWALKS FOR THE PURPOSE OF REMOVING GUM OR SODA STAINS PERIOD.

You should get your facts straight before you say things ABOUT ME that are incorrect. Look at the previous posts. Tony will confirm as well as others.
