There are so many different options - none should ever be overlooked. Anytime there is an opportunity for professionals in the same industry to congregate, only good can come from it no matter who's footing the bill. I've gained as much from attending a *** sanctioned meeting at a restaurant with NO speakers or vendors as I have from one with multiple vendors attending & lots more contractors. Each has benefits. I'm in the throes of planning two meetings right now that are polar opposite of each other and I'll take something away from each.

I only went to one ACR, it was good. I think its ok to have a couple/few hours of show & tell, equipment or chems or sales/marketting stuff and then the rest open discussion and just contractor taliking, but what I liked most was meeting and BSing about everything, with other contractors

Im looking forward to others

Ron,
I disagree. The vendors have information on how to do things, supplies and equipment that the contractors need. I see nothing wrong with having a vendor host a RT. As a matter of fact, of the ones I have attended most of the best ones were held by vendors. Just because a vendor is hosting, doesn't mean they are selling, but it does mean they may be able to put together a schedule everyone can benefit from. Everyone who wants to hold one - should.

Just my .02...

Beth
p.s. if I misunderstood your post, sorry....

Have vendor meetings, not round tables.

Vendors can have a place at a meeting to bring education or new equipment.

The abuse of misinformation has to stop.

I have seen this over the years, you have also Beth.

You guys all talk game about people behind the scenes about this or that.

I'm calling the dist on the carpet, i want responsible vendors at round tables. Ones that truly the interest of my business relys on.

Maybe your taking the thread wrong, I have many dist frieinds that are responsible. Some of the ones here and in the past have displayed responsibilty to care for the industry as a whole.

I truly Believe the Hindilters care about people and there customers. I feel Russel and some others here on PWI and other sites have been there consistantly.

How many dist have come and gones while we are still here dealing with many of the same issues from the past.

I personally believe that the forums have been a driving force behind contractors presenting a more united front toward their vendors. It's a win/win situation if managed properly. Vendors should certainly take full advantage when invited to participate - contractors congregating is like shooting fish in a barrel to them for heaven's sake. Perfect target audience. But Ron, you are also very correct in stressing that only vendors who are responsible and value their customers should be invited to contractor organized events. And then sometimes, it is more fun for contractors to just be able to be contractors and not fish :)

Celeste

Yes, "when invited to participate". It comes with different meanings - you trust your vendor and want them there to help promote their business and reinforce your position on why you do what you do or you want to take the financial burden off of the contractor by having the vendors pay for all of the goodies & prizes, or you want to explore a new product and it's a good way to see demonstrations. Also, often a vendor has good technical knowledge of products that are extremely useful.

I totally get what your point is Ron - contractors banding together and deciding how THEY want things should be/could be a formidable thought for vendors but what goes around comes around. Vendors used to be the teachers to the contractors, now their contractor students are the teachers. Paradigm shift. Let's hope it's all for the best in the industry. Increasing the consciousness of every aspect of this profession is HUGE - and everyone will play an important role in some way.

I think if a vendor is having it. It should be free, because they are all rich. LOL. I thought the ACR one was a good RT. Im not cheap at all, I will spend money freely. but it cost what $35.00 for some ham & cookies . Hell my Wedding dinner cost less than that per person and we had steak, shrimp & chicken. Damn that was a good meal

I know it cost in time to set it up:)

You should have come to Celeste's RT last February.
She had a FEAST!

A whole warehouse full of big ole ugly PWers (and some pretty, petite female ones) ate until they had to be rolled out and there were plenty of leftovers.

Southerners know how to do it!

Customer acquisition is costly and time-consuming for me.
How 'bout you, Jeff?

Yup it is costly & time consumimg for me too, good point.

ACR should of had Celeste cater it:D . It was a good RT at ACR

Yeah, I heard it was a lot of fun. You just expect too much, Jeff, with your liberal 'free ride' mentality.
:D

There are some more good ones coming up soon!

Love ya, Jeff.
Hahahahahaha.

Don't be so picky Ron........where you eat, what kind of t-shirt...LOL! Half the fun of these is just relaxing, pulling an event t-shirt over the one you're wearing & eating standing up with your fingers (although the tailgate of a truck worked very well last time I was up at ACR :)

Celeste

ACR always has their RT catered, and has plenty of food. (as in trays left over afterwards) That Pennsylvania Dutch cooking is wonderful! Barbara picks a great menu.

This is an interesting post. The ideas of what a RT is and what it needs. I wonder how many have changed their ideas in the past few years? It would be interesting th have a modern poll about what RT are today. You might be surprised? Thank You.

Round tables have not changed, events are forming off them.

Round tables have been happening for years. Some you never hear about, Others are private with just a few.

I know of Maryland, NJ , AZ , FL and many other states I have been too that have not advertised on BBS. Private mostly with a personal Invite.

Contractor Events should possibly advertise them with a difference so people dont expext so much or warn they are not with any specific agenda.

Redo the post and make a new POLL

I can't find the thread again for the locations of the round tables for next year but I did talk to someone at Dewalt and it looks like we have the go ahead to hold a round table there again.

The last one that Everett and I set up there last year went really well and I'm going to plan on adding some extra things that everyone should get a lot out of too.

Maybe if we can get enough people to show up I can talk to them about giving away one of the new pressure washers they are designing.

These things are REALLY cool! The new designs will make a huge difference in the way pressure washers are built in the future. They will increase the life expectency of the pump, unloader and engine by probably 30% or more and use less fuel.

Ron can you shoot me a link to the thread so I can set a firm date for the 2009 MD,VA,DC area round table?
