I recently joined PWNA... I still have the new member packet somewhere as we are moving to a new location and it will likely be the last thing unpacked. I didn't join for the logo or hopes that they will land me a job (while all that would be nice), I joined because I feel major regulation is coming to our industry. I feel like PWNA and other orgs might be our best chance at lobbying and getting some reasonable input to the coming wave of regulations. I worry a little about the supplier influence because they would all love to sell us evaporators to go with our water reclaim, then HAZMAT disposal bags for recovered waste, then specialized, green chemicals. But, that is why the BOD are contractors.
If you don't like the orgs and/or refuse to join, I understand fully. I hate to call him out, and I understand if this gets censored, but at the Tampa RT, when Chris of Apple roof cleaning said we had to forget ourselves for the good of the industry and join an org...a piece of me died. Sounds like a disaster out of an Ayn Rand book.
That being said, I didn't join for the good of the industry. My reasons were purely selfish. But, as has been proven over and over, selfish motives in business are typically mutually beneficial.
I've seen the PWNA logo on some of my competitors who are not listed on the website. Beyond that, they do a terrible job...
Obviously there is some work to do. I'll do my best to prepare to serve my time in the near future.
