Phil Robertson and A&E

I will be posting an explanation of my opinion of all this in relation to what the Bible says a little later. Friends, keep an open mind and feel free to correct me where I am wrong and enemies....get your screenshot fingers ready.

Thing is, there was no judgement. Anyone that took offense was judging themselves. All he offered was an opinion, and I see nowhere that he went contrary to what his opinion was.

In addition to the liberal media's narrative of supporting an open mind and tolerance, as long as you agree with them, there is another ongoing trend that I'm sick of. That is this thing about "judging." People take that one phrase out of the bible and try to apply it to anyone who says they don't agree with something. There is a much broader context than just "judge not lest ye be judged."

If there is one consistent theme throughout the entire Bible it is love.

From the very beginning, God made his first rule regarding the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, in an effort to save us from the heartache that comes from sin.

Satan was right there deceiving Eve just like he has done to all of us ever since.

And just like today, Adam, a family member, was drawn right into the lie. Maybe out of ignorance, maybe out of curiosity, maybe he just didn't want her to suffer alone in her sin. We don't know why. The text doesn't say.

But the same thing happens today. We don't like to see our family members or friends suffering the effects of sin so we either join in, or try to condone or excuse them.

The best way I can think to describe the Love that God has for us is to use a child as an example.

Nicole is my granddaughter. I love her with all my heart. I don't want her to get hurt. I want to spare her of the pain that comes with life. So I make rules towards that goal.

One elementary example would be the rule to refrain from touching the stove. When Nicole was very small I told her not to touch the stove. I didn't tell her this because I wanted to control her. I told her because I love her.

The problem that eventually rears it's ugly head is the oldest lie. "Thou shalt NOT surely die". The devil is not stupid. He knows that we are creatures of the present. He knew that Eve would not immediately die when she ate the forbidden fruit. He knew that this would allow him a foothold that still works with mankind to this day. Eve, who was not made to die, but rather to live eternally, DID in fact die. She just died on God's time schedule, not as an immediate result of her sin.

Bringing it back to today, How does this affect Nicole?

So after being told NOT to touch the stove, maybe she accidentally touches it.....or touches it on purpose when the stove is not turned on. Now, in her eyes I've gone from a grandfather who loves her to a grandfather who is a liar. I've gone from a grandfather who cares for her to an ogre who lives just to control her.

Can you see how silly that sounds? Eventually Nicole is going to get burned. Possibly very badly. All because she lost trust because she doesn't know all the facts. She doesn't know that not touching the stove is a practice she need to learn to live full life without the health issue of burns.

It's so simple to see in that context but why is it so hard to understand that in the context of our Heavenly Father who's capacity for love is more than we can even fathom?

Early on God made little in the way of documented rules for mankind.

From the text it's a lot easier to tell what God "didn't" like during that time.

It was pretty obvious that God did not favor murder as being something we should do. We learn that quickly from the murder of Abel.

It was pretty obvious that God did not favor Rape, more specifically male rape. We learn that quickly from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Once the law was given in a written form it becomes a little more evident of the rules God set in place for the Israelites.

When people think of Laws they think of the Ten Commandments. The ten commandments were just the tip of the iceberg. In total there were 613 commandments.

Some of those were meant for all time. Some were very temporary. Some were longer term and some were simply regulations in regards to worship.

Throughout the Bible God has provided types and antitypes to paint a picture of what was to come. This is one of the ways a scholar can dig deep into the scriptures and find evidence of its truth.

For example Joseph was an type of Christ. Things that happened in his life paint a picture of the king to come, Jesus.

The crossing of the Red Sea was a type of baptism.

Sometimes men broke God's temporary commands and messed up the picture God was trying to paint.

For example, when the Israelites were in the wilderness and were thirsty for water God told Moses to "strike" the rock and water would come out. This was a "picture" of the old law. The law that was difficult to understand and impossible for any one of us to follow 100%. God's dealings were harsh because man was not mature enough for phase 2 to come. It was like when a child responds to spankings when they are too young to understand much more than physical punishment.

Later, a second time when the Israelites needed water God told Moses to "speak" to the rock. (rather than strike it). This was a beautiful picture God was painting to show the difference between the old law (harsh, punishment, difficulty connecting with God) and the New Testament (personal responsibility, love, a personal relationship with God.

For some reason, in anger, Moses struck the rock again instead of speaking to it. This ruined the "picture" God was painting. God punished Moses for that by not allowing him to go into the promised land.

So some laws were temporary, some were meant for all time. Some were religious laws and others were simply laws God gave us to lead us to a good life. Some were laws to protect the innocent from the guilty and other were just Laws that lead his children to happiness.

There were laws against murder, theft, rape, extortion, assault, adultery and many others to protect the innocent from the guilty. There were other laws like those against incest, homosexuality, beastiality, laws against certain foods etc that were given to protect his "children" from harming themselves.

Much like Nicole, many of these laws can be broken without any immediate effects. For example, a man might get away with committing adultery many times before it destroys his family. A person may get by with incest many times before the union produces children with health problems or other issues. One might get away with bestiality for a while before they introduce diseases into humanity the way Aids was brought into our world through sexual relations with chimpanzees. It is the lie of all times. THOU SHALT NOT SURELY DIE.

God didn't give us these rules to "control" us. He gave us the rules to HELP us.

He wants us (his children) to be happy. He doesn't want us to be "deceived" into believing lies that make us miserable.

That is what Phil Robertson was saying when he quoted Corinthians.

Breaking these laws is "sin". The word sin means "to miss the mark". Just like a dart game when you throw a dart off the board.

We all sin. We all "miss the mark".

God has laws against gluttony. I am guilty of breaking that law. I don't want to break it. I literally hate myself for breaking that law. One day I may conquer that sin. But now I rely on the grace of God to know my heart enough to know that I am continually working towards conquering that sin.

I'm sure there are many of us out there who deal with everything from alcohol and drug addiction to anger and fidelity issues.

God has given us grace. He sent his son to die in our place. He loves us. He wants to see us conquer sin, but he has given us a savior (Jesus) and a helper (the Holy Spirit) to work with us as we try to conquer sin.

When does that grace run out? That's the million dollar question. It appears that it runs out when we no longer accept it and defend the lie.

For example if I were to celebrate my gluttony, brag about it, try to convince others to join me in it or otherwise glorify it, it just appears to me that God's grace has it's limits right there. There are many examples in the New Testament where God no longer extended grace to those who believed the lie, lived it with no conscience and/or tried to get others to join in. The Pharisees were just one example of them. Jesus called them hypocrites and serpents. That doesn't sound like grace was still in the picture. Especially when you consider Jesus called Prostitutes and Tax Collectors his brothers and sisters.

I think what Phil and many other Christians (like me) believe is that a homosexual is no different from me (the glutton). Or the Adulterer, or the thief or the murderer. We are all sinners.

There is a difference between a follower of Christ who believes the truth and who's heart aches because of their sin, vs those who celebrate their sin. It is those who celebrate sin (the GLAAD group who spread the lie and call guys like Phil all kinds of names) who turn others away from the simple truth that God loves us and he just wants what is best for us. He designed us in a certain way to form families and he knows what is best. We just need to trust him.

There is nothing that irks me more than seeing a fat preacher calling out the sins of others as if he is any better than them. He is no different from the ones who are having affairs.

But no matter who the faulty messenger is, the truth is still the truth. God has made it very clear that homosexuality is a sin just like many others.

Just because one is born with a tendency towards kleptomania doesn't mean it is acceptable under grace to form a group celebrating the joys of theft.

Just because one is born with a tendency towards beastiality or pedophilia or adultery doesn't mean God's grace extends to those who flaunt and celebrate those sins.

The same thing goes for homosexuality.

If you are a homosexual I would love for you to pray for me so that I overcome my gluttony and other issues and I would pray for you, as a child of God and a brother or sister, that you might overcome what ever issues come between you and God. We love each other. We don't hate each other.

I don't even hate the "sin". That's really a stupid saying. I hate the father of the sin, the devil, the deciever, who was a liar from the beginning and loves to see us living in misery rather than serving the living God.

That's my opinion. If PWI wants to put me on hiatus maybe I can get back to making a living like I was before I came here. Lol.

And Phil is right. A vagina does make more sense than an anus. lol.

I can't believe I am even responding to this because I know how controversial and hot the topic is today but, I think there is a very important business point to this topic. Many people are focused on Phil's comments and the Freedom of Speech angle of this topic. I also see it from the A & E's point of view as an employer. When I hire someone for my company I talk to them about my company image and message, I speak to them about my brand and the fact that I do not want my uniform shirts worn into a bar or if they are wearing them they must not get into a negative situation that reflects poorly on my company as it may impact their employment. I think as Phil Robertson's employer A & E has every right to discipline him if they think it affects the brand. I think as business owners we would all feel this way. The situation they have put themselves in though is that their most popular asset is the show that he is in and removing him will have consequences they need to weigh, no differently than us when we have to do them same with a valued employee that has gotten into a "situation" of some sort.
Then there is the secondary issue of whether people agree or disagree with his comments. From what I have seen and heard from him I do not believe him to be a hurtful person so I believe he was expressing his opinions in his way. I may or may not agree with what he said but I think it is a lot like Bulletin Boards and Facebook where people can express their opinions but we always know that while we are told not to judge the fact is people always will judge and express their view points as well. I'd like to think that we were a society that could, as we say here "agree to disagree," accept view points other than our own and be accepting rather than look to attack. Just my view in a short statement.

good point everett and i agree but if you fired an employee for wearing a your shirt you would expect blowback from the community. i know it's comparing apples and oranges but hopefully you get my point. a and e didn't get me mad it's their right to be stupid. piers morgan calling him a racist biggot ticked me off good though

I liked this off of A&E's facebook page

...You’ve got standards, after all. You wouldn’t want to be associated with tasteless and inappropriate things. The people on Duck Dynasty can’t be allowed to run around being all Christian-like. It might ruin the reputation of the network whose other shows include Hoarders and Intervention — programs that invite viewers to gawk at drug addicts and the mentally ill for their own amusement.

Disney-ABC Television Group owns 50 percent of your network, were they involved in this decision? They must have been. They’ve got a brand to protect. They can’t allow a bearded right winger to spout beliefs. BELIEFS, of all things. The horror! We must shutdown beliefs, opinions, and ideas, and get back to the serious business of selling sex and debauchery to children. They can’t deal with these distractions, don’t they have another season of The Bachelor or Desperate Housewives or Trophy Wife to produce?

Good Lord, these militant neo-liberal thought police are better at brainwashing than I ever realized. They just convinced you to torpedo your own network. You guys just kamikazed yourselves. You just pulled the pin on the grenade and then put it in your pocket. This is incredible. Didn’t you see what happened with Chic-fil-A when GLAAD crusaders tried to shutdown an entire business just because they disapproved of the owners opinions? Don’t you remember that? I’ll refresh your memory: their “boycott” resulted in an enormous sales spike for the company, as millions of people like myself went out of our way to eat there just to ensure that the anti-free speech fools on the left didn’t win. A week after the anti-Chic-fil-A campaign began, their restaurants across the country were overflowing. It was, officially, the least effective boycott in the history of mankind.

Now it’s all going to happen again, except it will be the opposite effect, and you’ll be on the losing end this time around.

If you don’t bring Phil back immediately, and publicly apologize to him and to his viewers for attempting to censor his Christian faith, Duck Dynasty will leave your network, find a new home, and all of those ratings will go somewhere else. Then you’ll be stuck with the stragglers who feel like spending a Saturday rubbernecking at mentally disturbed elderly women with compulsive hoarding addictions. That’s how this is going to play out. Congratulations.

Did you think the “gay rights” crowd would stick around and “support you” for meeting their ransom demands? No, silly A&E, that isn’t how this works. The speech-controllers on the left are like a black hole. They can only suck you in and obliterate you. They’re like the devil — they ask for your soul and offer nothing in return.

Am I coming on too strong?

Just wait.

Just you wait.

This is the worst decision you’ve ever made. Well, “Bonnie and Clyde” was the worst decision, but this is a close second. Speaking of which, just to make sure we’re clear, the violent mini-series glorifying a couple of thugs who robbed some banks and killed some people 80 years ago — OK. Wholesome family man quotes the Bible during an interview with GQ — UNACCEPTABLE. Is that the correct equation? Is that your business model?

Just to be doubly clear: you guys hate the Bible and find it to be offensive, right? Or is it just parts of the Bible? Or is just Christians? Or is it just Christians who have the audacity to believe in the entire Bible, rather than a select few segments that pass the modern PC litmus test? Just let me know, and I’ll send the word along to my readers, many of whom are Christians who watch — I mean, used to watch –A&E. I’m sure they’ll be interested in finding out that you view their faith as so abhorrent that you’d fire a guy simply for quoting a passage from Scripture.

You made your bed. You decided to stand against free speech, against open expression of ideas, against Christians, against the Bible, against the views of a majority of humanity, against the most profitable show in the history of your network, and against almost all of your viewers. But, hey, at least you put a smile on GLAAD’s face. That must make it all worth it, right?

Sincerely,

Everyone who isn’t a left wing extremist (AKA your former customer base)

I am curious if they would fire someone for espousing anti Christian views, or antireligious views. It seems to me that there are a whole heck of a lot more Christians than there are gays, lesbians and transgenders combined. Brilliant marketing move.

This is a great opportunity for a Christian station to break out and become a powerhouse.

I believe this would be a great time for the move. Seems like Americans are salivating waiting for this to happen. Its such a shame when TV stations will not ban Miley Cirus but silence Phil.

You are right. Look what Fox News did to the other stations. Too bad they turned out to be almost as bad as what they replaced. Go Mitt Romney! Lol. Big mistake ignoring independents.

You guys do not get it, most Young people do not Argue religion. They Think its Science Fiction

The Only Way to Cure the A&E problem is by Hurting there Wallet.

I really Like to Stand Behind this But I already Get the Idea the Family is Going to Jump Ship.

Not that His Fam Jumping ship Doesn't Mean anything. How stupid is everyone going to Feel when the Son Releases a Statement Apologizing His father Spoke wrong or was taken out of context

We wait!!!!

A&E isn't going to change. We do not Live in the same world we once did, Being Christian as Scott Stated is not as Popular as He believes it is.

Heck People on these BBS do not even Stand for right or wrong. Half the Time if its not affecting you no one cares. There a Handful out of 1000's that come here.

Guys Right here have ripped people off and others Just turn the other way. Unfortunately A&E like the GOV know the General Population forgets in three days. Uncle Sy wants Paid, so they have these people in Check Mate. If they walk A&E will Legally Tie the Network that Might pick them up through a ringer.

I hate to Be a Debbie Downer but we buy Crap every day Made by Children in Slave Camps. Phil I'm sure Sells some of it, he to looked the other way for the dollar when they Inked the Deal to make Dynasty Stuff. You folks think all of this Might be a Publicity Stunt for sales that have Slowed down. Ware houses full of Crap not moving because the one hit wonder shows merchandise just got back up Badly?

This Guy has said these things before , why now a Big deal?

Or as Slim Pickens would say. "Damn you talk prettier than a two dollar whore"

I remember that line and the movie it came from. hahahahahahaha Politically correct, we don't need no stinking politically correct hahahahaha
