Past transportation just for fun

Larry, if you had one of these I'm going to demand a DNA test. We are brothers.

My senior year I got in trouble and my parents took my Grand Prix away for a while. I went out and financed this beast. $170 a month for a year. :(

The seats laid all the way down on this thing. This car was instrumental in my getting married at 19.

My Mom had one in the 80's B210

That's about 45 min from me. Duck Town

Mule Town USA http://www.muleday.com/

Maybe that's why I'm stubborn. :)

If anyone thought there was no way to be more lame than a Fiero, once I got married it got worse.

1986 V6 Mustang. Except mine was green with a big gold band down the side. The Lord was merciful to me and spared me the fate of having to drive it much. The second day I had it a guy in an old 1970's Riviera T-Boned me at an intersection and destroyed it. He hit me so hard I could put an elbow on the drivers side door and an elbow on the passenger side door while sitting in the driver seat.

After that I bought this gem for $400 cash. It turned out to be a GREAT surveillance car. I could follow a subject around all day in this thing and no one ever noticed it. I could park for hours in a neighborhood and no one ever questioned me. I guess they figured that anyone up to no good would never try a get-away in something this slow. I never had a single problem with this car.

1981 plymouth champ.jpg

Started making a little money at that time so we bought some old bikes to cruise around San Francisco whenever we could get some time off. 73 Honda CB350 and 78 Kawasaki KZ400

1973 cb350.jpg1978 kz400.jpg

Then Chris was born and I fully moved into dorkdom. 1987 Ford Aerostar. It had a dual purpose. I bought a dark gray panel van and installed a custom interior set up for surveillance video. At one point we had about $30k in equipment in that van. It also served as the family truckster for a while. This was my second NEW vehicle purchase. We haggled with them for 8 full hours but I walked out of there with a deal that was worth the 8 hours. My days of getting screwed by car dealers was over. lol.

Really, You graduated from Dorkdom? You hide it so well.

This from a guy with a history of driving ignominious rides.

The dorkness continued throughout the 80's and early 90's

1987 Ford Escort bought new, automatic seatbelts! Yuck:

85-87_Ford_Escort_hatch.jpg

1982 Yamaha Seca Turbo. Wish I still had it. It was great bike. Top speed 145. Tested that many times on the bay bridge. This was the perfect Northern California bike. It was a crate bike I bought for $1100.

1983-yamaha-xj-650-seca-turbo-1.jpg

1978 Pontiac Catalina. Bought for $400 at an auction in Phoenix while on a case there for a second vehicle. Drove it across country after that. Was doing workers comp cases across the country and needed extra vehicles to change out.

1978 pontiac catalina.jpg

1982 Honda Civic - Bought in Mississippi, drove to Florida and crashed it the first day there. Florida was bad luck.

1982_honda_civic-pic-63084.jpeg

1981 Mazda GLC - the dorkdom continues in full force. Bought it to drive while the Honda was being fixed for $360. Only 3 cylinders worked but it got 40 mpg! I thought it was beige when I bought it. Cleaned it, compounded it and found it was white. lol

Dork phase in full force.

Great lineup. You and Russ both had a Monte Carlo SS?

Lat 80's and I'm going through another phase. Trying to move on from the dorkmobiles.

1984 Peugeot 505 Turbo Diesel. My first diesel. I learned from this car that diesel tanks can grow algae in the tank and a $450 French fuel filter can be replaced with a $2 plastic one from autozone. This was a pretty decent semi luxury car though.

1985 pugeot.jpg

This about the time I bought the Shelby Charger and this beast 1985 Blazer.

1985 blazer.jpg

Got this guy next. 1982 Camaro Z28. Was owned by a cop before who had put Mickey Thompson wides on the back, shortened the rear axle and did some stuff to the motor that, frankly, I didn't understand. It was a tire smoking monster and would do about 135 tops.

1982z28.jpg

Next phase.......back to the dorkmobiles....

Gotta love a Peugeot 505, and someone proud enough to post it. In many circles, that is a classy automobile. I prefer the 504, but to each their own. he 504 would have easily fit you into the Dork Mobile strata

Great lineup. You and Russ both had a Monte Carlo SS?
Yeah,Iloved that Monte Carlo SS,It was my favorite car I ever had.Its in a Chevy museum in Raleigh. It was very clean. When I sold it,it only had 24,000 original miles on it.

I was never able to keep anything nice for any period of time.

Back to dorkdom:

1995 Mercury Lynx - Beater car - couldn't kill it

1995 mercury lynx.jpg

My first cop car - 1980 Dodge Diplomat Paid $200 cash for it. Ran like a top.

1980 Dodge Diplomat.jpeg

Just had a beater car fetish for a while. 1968 Valiant bought for $25. Had the 4door version with the slant 6. Ran perfect, only had one dented fender which I fixed. Great car $25 bucks!!!!! Didn't do to well in the snow in Rapid City though.

1968 Valiant.jpg

Got this for the snow. My 2nd diesel. It was a rare one. But it was rusted badly. It was a 1981 Diesel pickup. It must have come from some other country because it was a 4wd and they didn't make any diesel 4wd for sale here. It was another vehicle that wouldn't die. Smoked a lot though. This isn't the real picture. I can't find a picture of a 4wd one.

1981 nissan.jpg

Back to the family dork cars. Had a couple of Ford Taurus cars. 1987 and 1988

1988 taurus.jpg

Man, I think I'm still in the late 80's or early 90's. Still a lot more dorkmobiles to go.

You guys held out for all the cool cars. I bought too early and got the junk. lol.

Speaking of dorkdom I had a 72 Ford Maverick (slant 6 4 dr) and a 73 Pinto. I also had a 76 Mustand (4cyl that couldn't accelerate up a hill if I was going 55 already).
I even had a 79 Ford Courier pickup. Man was that a small truck and a 4 cyl to boot.
When I had my first two kids we had a 80 AMC Concorde (slant 6 and 4dr)
Looking back I had more than my fair share of uncool cars. At least I didn't drive a Dart.

In my mid 20s, I got into the import scene. I had a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse. I started out with the big exhaust can, wheels, and lowering springs. After Sept. 11th I was overwhelmed with patriatism so I decided to pull out the paint gun.
PATRIOTII.jpg
My girlfriend at the time ended up wrecking the car. The insurance company totaled it, but I wanted it back. I bought the car back, had the frame fixed, and all new sheetmetal installed on the drivers side. I finished the body work, and sealed the car white. I took the extra insurance money and went into the motor. Pistons, rods, cams, new clutch, lightened flywheel and a big turbo setup. The car would move.
RACECARS001.jpgDSCF0004.jpgDSCF0003a.jpg

I ended up selling the eclipse and bought a 2005 GSXR 600. I bought it to ride. No wheelies, no racing, just ride. Yea right. That lasted a few weeks until I started feeling comfortable. I added new sprockets, exhaust, and new paint. I started doing a lot more racing. In went the 750 motor with cam swap, and extended swingarm. My best ET to date is 9.35@140mph in the 1/4. I even got my wife into racing bikes. Both bikes are currently for sale.

Did you ever race the eclipse? Chris was getting the high 9's with his stretched ZX6 but he got spanked by an old Eagle Talon.
