Newbie questions (silly ones)

Hi there

I bought my first gas PW, Honda 11HP 3200PSI/4GPM.

It was a good deal, so I can complain at all, $200 with 100' hose and adjustable pressure gun. Was used very little (owner said) but was pretty much all its life outdoors, so is rusted and s**t.

I changed oil, spark plug, but when I checked the oil at the pump, level was fine, but the oil inside looked like milk, white and not too thick. Is one of those annovi reverberi pumps, made in Italy. What's wrong there?

Tested and starts at 1st or 2nd pull, I picked a pressure gauge at northern tools for $20 and installed it and the pump output before the pressure hose connection, and it shows less tha 2000PSi all the time, probably because I don't have the proper tips.

and for last, the one thing that really pisses me bad, is that the macine shakes like crazy when you push the trigger, but when you release it, it stops the shaking. it shakes so bad that it moves by itself, got to use 2x4's to keep it in place.

thanks in advance.

Like you said $200 bucks?

Sounds like there is water getting into the pump thats why it is a milky color and the pump is not running right. I would stop using it until you can get that fixed....... Ahh! that is not good. Did you not check out the machine before you paid for it? Always check all the fluids, and run the machine to be sure everything, Motor, pump, unloader etc... is working corectly.

So pump's f***ed up ... mhh I have never replaced a seal before but there's a 1st time for everything. is it worth it to replace it or just get another pump ?

being a 11HP engine, based on the numbers I've seen in this boards, the max I can get is 3.5-4Kpsi / 4GPM right?

Yeah, $200 and is going to be a back-up unit when the main unit can be purchased ( that's funny jeje)

thanks guys

EDIT: Will any of these work ?

I would try the first one .. Maybe.. I cant remember but I think an 11 hp has a 1 inch shaft.. you shold get about 3000 @ 4.... If the pump just has oil in it .. pull the head and order a seal kit , also check the ceramic pistons for hairline cracks.. Also check with a local pressure washer place they we rebuild it fo r a little money.. And Check with Russ and the Hot water Wiz and ask about the kit for your pump.. I replaced the seal and all in my ts1011 about a year ago took about 15 min... Then last month rebuilt a nickel head and replaced it on my ts1011 took about 30min and I eve replaced all the ceramic pistons..

AR makes a good pump, but when you see the milk one of two things has happened 1) seals - time to rebuild 300.00 minimum on most AR pumps 2) condensation has built up from lack of use and when you warm the pump up the condensation mixes with water - Change the pump oil and start over

My advice ? Change the pump oil first and let it run while using it if it gets milky again repete the process , if it still persist call the parts house and rebuild the pump

Gene : PM me and tell me got you got and prices, budget is tight right now, but I don't want to start crying in front of people :)

Russ: Thanks for the tip man, I'll change the oil and start from there.
I'd rather get another pump suitable for this engine than rebuild this one.
In the equipment that I use to have when I was an employee we used non-detergent oil - What would you recommend? Is there any benefit like in cars to run thicker or thinner oils ?

Thanks again

One thing that I noticed, and reading about it, can think that might be my problem here.

Pump came with a chemical injector, with no hose in it, and is sucking air like crazy, but that's after the pump, so I don't know if this could have affected the pump, keep in mind that I pretty much know nothing about equipment, so I'm probably wrong.

By the way, once you put a hose on your chemical injector, but you're not downstreaming, you put a pluk or something in that hose to prevent it from sucking air?

Sleep tight :)

Water in pump= bad seals or piston.

Packings are relatively easy to change here is a link that will help you learn about your equipment. Even if you have a different style pump the principals still apply. You can also visit our tech library for more info.

The injector will only suck in air when you have the low pressure tip (or no tip) installed. don't worry about plugging it up it really does not impact your washing. if you don't want to use it you can remove it as long as it is not built into the unloader.
