As to IKECA not holding it’s members accountable – I have no idea where that came from.
How does IKECA hold it's members accountable? (This is a serious question.) What has to happen for IKECA to revoke a member's certification? IMO, there should be a written "
code of ethics" by which an "
association's" members are to abide, and when evidence is shown that a member is not adhering to the "
code of ethics" there should be disciplinary action taken, including but not limited to the revoking of one's certification. (I am not implying that if Joe Blow calls IKECA and says, "XYZ Exhaust Cleaning did a bad job", that IKECA should revoke XYZ's certification.)
FWIW, I applaud the efforts of the CHDCA, IKECA, & PAC to educate exhaust cleaners. I believe that is a step in the right direction for the KEC industry. I like the fact that IKECA urges it's members to further their knowledge of the industry, by attending meetings, seminars, etc. What I feel certification is currently lacking is
accountability. What better way to demonstrate the value of hiring a certified KEC company is there, than by letting the food service industry know that hiring "
certified" KEC companies not only implies quality service but it ensures it? Simply administering a test of one's KEC knowledge and handing them a certificate is NOT solving the issues the KEC industry is and has been facing. If it were, there would not be so many exhaust system fires being reported...at least that were being serviced by certified KEC companies.
Sorry for my rant, but this is an issue I take very seriously.
As to the name Grease Police – like I said it is my opinion along with others – just the way I think.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, right?
