If you had a magic????

If you had a magic wand what would you change about the PWNA.

Let’s not talk about what the PWNA has not done in the past but let’s help the body realize what they may need to do in the future.

One example of positive impute I can give is that they have a committee called the action committee. These people have no other job than to facilitate those volunteers in getting there projects done and getting them what they need to do it.

My other piece of advice is asked publicly for help.

I have expressed these things to Chris and others and they know my stand. I also feel in only a few months that things have been looking up.

I ask other for there impute and that it be positive and no reflect on the past negative things.

The PWNA main problem is revenue, money talks and gets things done. Contractors need to support the efforts. Without support the industry will only stay or fall behind and other options for cleaning will take the four front.

Make some suggestion and comments again please don’t make personal comments about Board members and others affiliated.

The types of contactors affiliated with organizations are usually successful?

I was in NJ two weeks ago and Everett told me that the plumbers’ organization met there once a month. It’s interesting that other tradesmen can meet but PW are afraid.

Property managers have and organization nationwide with many state chapters. They have local meeting I attend every time they have them.

Everett also mentioned that we as members should have a nationwide campaign to educate and notify people to use PWNA certified contactors. I think this is a great idea.

This thread can go many direction, please keep it positive to have some merit.

Thanks

There are many things that the PWNA can do to advance the organization within their current budget. I have been a board member of several professional organizations and I have seen it done and done it – most of the time without expending any cash at all.

In my opinion, the PWNA has to focus on two main goals:
1. Becoming a valuable resource for pressure washers – not just 2-3 segments of the industry
2. Becoming a valuable resource for the pressure washing client

If they can do this, membership will come in droves and potential cleints will pay for everything else in order to have access to qualified contractors.

It would be that it was a type of union with benifet's that would help me out by joining.
Such as health care, insurance coverage, product discounts, network of suppliers, trade mag.,information concerning how to get into diffrent market's,ect....

Ron P.

That has been talked over many times and the answer is it takes numbers to pull that off, something they want dearly but not with appox. 300 or so members.

Remember all organizations want as many benefits as they can muster for the members and for that to truly happen I would venture a guess they need at the least 1000 members.

I know that many here just don't feel it is worth the cost of joining, and I think everyone that thinks that way says what is in it for me?

Now one thing I feel might help them grow is to somehow get the name and address of every pressure washer in the USA and Canada and all other countries and send a nice one page intro letter, not the big package.

Also I know at some time in the past they had someone in CA who was like a West Coast branch.

That might help for the West Coast again.

there is power in numbers.
Why not have 2000 members at $50 each
then 200 at $250?
Once your a force and a force that VOTES.
Then you have POWER.
IT'S THE BAD PRESS AND HIGH PRICE THAT'S STOPPING THE NEW MEMBERS.
Just my opinion.

THANKS RON

if you had a large number of people i think you can approach a large HMO carrier and get a group rate, it should be cheaper then ind. trying to get into someone elses plan?
If you had a trade mag that was sent to members and had a lot of members then the advertisers chould offer things at better then average prices because you will increase there sales.
A trade mag could be used to make money for the pwna.
Charge a fee for co. to use the pwna seal [after you have POWER]
POWER COMES IN NUMBERS, YOU NEED A LOT OF INTERESTED PEOPLE. Maybe offer diffrent types of memberships or a ballon type membership where you get in at one price and move up to the next level as your co. grows.
You need a way to get first year guy's to join.
Everyone is information hungery, so offer new guy's rental/buy training information as part of there membership. Then maybe we would'nt have so meny people doing damage or quitting after 1 year.
Get a chamber of commerce type thing set-up to help people.
You need to supply an easy path for people to get what they need. If your work can save me my time and work, then it has value. Value im willing to pay for.
The how to get it clean part is the easy stuff. How to run a buissness is the hard part.
I cant believe that envriospc still GIVES AWAY that free information packet with your first order. It walks a new guy threw all the steps to land his first customer. From the first phone call to collecting a check.
That is a great big help to new people.
We have great people here that are very good writer's.
The stuff ive listed here are for the little guy's. The next step is getting the bigger guy's interested in this. 10 employees and up.
You need a big bang to shake the past and move on.
Where is the real money in this industry and how can you get a piece of it while making more for the co/people that you want a piece of there pie.
You cant make a dime if you dont spend a nickle!!
that's a fact. It also doubles your money.
When you do get people involved then you can start doing other things to improve image and help others.
Your round table meeting are good but what if you did the same thing but also helped a charity at those meeting's? Then pooled the money and got reccognition for your work.
If everyone were to bring there rig and do some kind of cleaning project that got some press and was sponsered by the PWNA then that would help shed the bad press and help others.
It would also shed light to a whole new group of customers that might not even know your services exsist.
What goes around. Comes around.
I hope this long post is on the right track, i would hate to think i was on the wrong one?

Nice to see the imput from you guys. We really appreciate it. And we do get a lot of ideas from members and nonmembers alike.

I want to be frank with those that read this post and hopefully convince some of you how important it is to get involved.

I have been with the PWNA since the begining. I have had many different posistion safety, communications, membership, president, and currently immediate past president. What I think a lot of people over look is the fact the all the effort that comes from the board of directors and the committees is done on a volutary basis. This makes it tough for the association because efforts put into the PWNA are contributed. In other words, PWNA may not always get the attention it deserves from its volunteers. They need to make a living first and some times they have no choice because of their finacial situation. I don't fault anyone who volunteers. We constantly get ideas on how great thing can be........but when it comes to getting invovled and making this happen.......most of these people just disappear. I have witness people speaking out in membership meetings, in board meeting, on the bulletin boards and in private that when given the opportunity to perform, it just did not happen. I guess what really want you guys to understand is if you want it then you have to get involved to make it happen. We need doers.

Believe me we won't to hear ideas and we will listen and make decision about them. But I don't know what else I can say about how important it is for contractors, distributors, suppliers, and manufactures in the industry to become involved. And if you just can not make yourself believe that you can make a difference by participating then please pay your dues and elect individuals to the board that you believe can make a difference. This way we can afford to pay for the services.

Do not just sit on the side lines waiting to see what will happen because if you do, it won't happen.

I am trying to make a difference. I hope you will too.

Thanks guys for posting on this thread. Lets make PWNA what we all know it can be.

i dont know anything about the PWNA but if i had to wish for anything it would be to go to a convention or at least the FIRST one without having to spend $1000 on lodging and entry fee's to see if i would even care to go to a second one.

Tim, I feel the same exact way you do. I also can't see (yet)spending 250 for a membership. then another few hundred for seminars. I live a few hours from the convention center and would love to meet some of you guys but I just can't afford it. Maybe a drive up for the day and a meeting would be nice.

Next, the whole everyone is a volunteer thing doesn't float in my boat, sorry. I understand that people have to make a living, don't get me wrong on that point, but if you can't commit time, you shouldn't do the job, period. The only reason I say this is because I belonged to a volunteer organization last year in PA and I was the membership officer for my chapter near Phila. the whole organization was volunteer exept one person who made about 600 a week to do everything the officers needed her to do while they were out making their livings. Now, our organization did lobbying in congress and other political stands, raised money for homeless and ill children and other less fortunate people. Now we had a large amount of people, but our yearly dues was $25.00. Not a big $250.00 up front, 250 was lifetime, but everyone can't afford it all the time, we can afford 25 a year. Also each chapter had a membership officer who, maybe like me, basically walked up to people at events, said hi, explained a little about our organization told them to give me $25.00 and filled out there card, bang, they were a member. I signed up 75 people at one event once, this was before I was the membership officer, this is also why I became the membership officer. Basically pay someone to do what you can't, re-structure membership rates and advertise why we should be members.
just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the feedback Mike and Tim.

Tim have you conscidered the the cost of your time and energy the goes into gaining experience. For me $1,000 is cheap when I think about it. I learn from others and establish face to face relationships that have helped me to grow my company and those that I meet. On the other hand some of you guys really don't want to grow your business. You just want a voice in the industry. If that is so, then maybe I am missing the point. Please let us know if that is the case.

i would love to go to the las vegas convention, and i am not complaining that the price isnt worth it,nor am i saying that i could not afford it,so far this month i have spent $340 on vehicle repairs,$330 on vehicle loan,$2000 on credit card payments,$2500 to the IRS,$1700 on a loan for my pressure washer,$308 on yellow page charges,i spent $250 today on tools,i have $6000 of custom harley parts arriving COD anyday, a $900 upgrade charge due for my new pressure washer that will be here next week, and i am about to write out a $1500 check for my mortgage in a minute,
as you can see squeezing out another grand and a few days away from work just doesnt seem possible.

maybe one day.

I am saying I can't afford it right now. I am not saying it wouldn't be money well spent, just out of my ballpark right now due to circumstances beyond my control. I hope my post was not taken in a negative way. After I read it it may have seemed that way. I just meant to say that I definitly understand not having a ton of time to work on volunteer stuff when you have a biz to run. That is why I stated there should be one or two people who are paid to work for the organization to get things done when the volunteers don't have the time.
All in all, I am sure you guys are doing all you can and with more support and more members more will be able to get done.
