House washing without a trigger-gun or x-jet

Gary, you know as well as I do, that even with 10 of your neighbors knowing how to clean, won't make a difference to your business. If you sell, market right, it won't matter. Like your site probably puts you into "no-bid" situations all the time. They call you and you alone because they were sold at the site that you directly marketed to them, your selected demographic.

I still say you have the coolest domain name out there for roof cleaning.

Thanks for the props Mike, I kind of feel like Chris (Apple) at times...a simple search for a person with an registering IQ and they can go into the business...but of course to sustain the business is a whole other book.

This has been a rewarding business for me. The kinship through internet forums and roundtable events have revolutionized this business for me. Just seeing what works and what doesn't for others...just cuts my 'research' needs. I definately didn't mean any offense to my comments and noticed you didn't take offense...which tells me our industry is evolving. I'm considering another forwarding link inspired by the Fennerator...must check again....if only my web guy would have showed me how to do the site in house....

funny thing...my website address that is prominently displayed on my truck....inspires 90% of my calls....others are well.....forwarded from my 900#

Ive got a question. dont know everything about how the pumps work. but noticed you and reef talking about closing the valve and it hurting the pump.
why would this hurt the pump or unloader. as long as you dont leave it closed for any longer than a min it should be ok right.? my pumps have release valves if the pump gets to hott but i dont let it sit longer than a min.
 
Kevin - It shouldn't hurt the pump as long as you have a backflow system running back into your water tank. You can blow a pump out in a month without one...easliy.


Micheal - I haven't ever seen that ball valve contraption before. I am curious on what you need to make it work. We simply downstream houses and sometimes use the Xjet. Our Xjet is mainly for commercial work when we are using haz chems that can't go near the machine.

I dont have a water tank i get the water from the house. the only thing that relases the hott water is the release valve that shoots out the water when the pump gets too hott. is there a way to do something to my setup .

how much life to you get out of your pumps?

Kevin - I speak from my past....We blew the pump in a month without a backflow/unloader on our machine. Cost about $700 to fix. Basically when you let off your gun the water backflows against the pump. I am not a mechanic nor am I in any way knowledged in this area, I am hoping for someone to help me explain this...

All I know is that I would invest in a water tank and a backflow system. It is really easy to install and the parts aren't much to do it. I will take a photo of ours and post it here in a bit!
 
cool thanks ill show you what my pump looks like. i have gymatic unloader and have a pressure release valve and a what i think is some type of bypass tube that connects back to the water hose out let. ill try and get a pic on here in a min also maybe you can see what im talking about.
 
the bypass tube that goes across the pump there in the pic. does this recirculate the water? i thought it did but like i said i admit i dont know for sure and would love your help. thanks
 
With a bypass like yours, it isn't good to close trigger/ballvalve for very long. The water circulates through your system fast and heats up quickly. This is why it is better to have a bypass that flows to a tank.

Shutting of a ballvalve is no different than releasing the trigger on a gun.

Don't know MUCH about Pressure Washers, so thank GOD for you guys.
But, on a roof cleaning diapraghm pump like a Udor or John Blue,or even a roller pump you MUST have a bypass back to your tank.
This provides agitation for the TSP/Borax in the Apple Sauce.

Sometimes, back when we used these kinds of pumps, we would actually start the pump, and then drive out to the job.
Hey, do NOT laugh ?

It seemed to "awaken" the mix.

After all, a Zillion cement mixers can't be wrong :cool:

Thanks for the info. a water tank is really not an option for me. im already close to my max trailer weight and max toungue weight for my truck seeing i only have a v6. is there a way i could hook the bypass up to a small tank say 5 to 10 gallons just so that it recirculates cooler fresh water?

Yes, as long as you have a float valve in it to keep from overflowing the tank.
 
i just got the truck and dont wanna hurt anything . plus i dont need ford to give me any s*** when my trans goes or who knows what. gotta protect the warranty.

i got a one story to do, she said its aluminin siding, will my x- jet be to strong? shoud i step back, fan it out, on the nozzel, and rinse with a hose?
 
when i fan out my xjet i can put my hand right in front of it with no prob. dont know with what set up you have if it does that. but i would use the xjet as long as you keep it faned out and keep the pressure low.
