Hoses

Lori,
What would the shipping be to 23168.

Shipping for the 100 ft of hose to your zip in Virginia is $16.94. Thank you for the opportunity to provide you with a quote, Lenny.

Brian, I can't follow the syntax of you entire comment, but it is just physics. If you want to make your 1 or 2 wire last longer with heat, open the trigger slowly to avoid steam build up and replace it when you have to. I do agree that Northern hose sucks. 2 wire will last longer in any situation as it is made to withstand higher pressure. I personally don't see the need to have 5000 psi 2 wire hose that weighs 84 pounds per 250' when I can have 4500 psi 1 wire hose that weighs 53 pounds per 250'.

William, I totally agree with that statment. In your application, or anyone running cold water, 1 wire will work just fine. Absolutely no reason for the extra weight for cold water.

Heat does not apply more pressure on the hose, only heat. Hoses intended for hot water have heat absorbing and dissipating qualities independant from the wires. I know you use hot water. Try one wire and enjoy the light weight. I know you have a few grey hairs, try to stay away from the heavy stuff and leave that for your son. I ran 1 wire for several years with hot water with no problems.

I am sorry for the run on sentence. I actually had to look up the word syntax in the dictionary. The first part was regarding this post. And what I said was "If you think that heat does not add pressure to a hose, you do not know what you are talking about. Sorry." The rest of the post was intended for someone else. I am sorry for my poor grammar I will try to check my post before I click the button next time.

Havn't had that problem yet but I am definitely going to get some 1/2'' for when they are connected. The psi loss was alot more than I thoght it would be. Went from 3500 to about 2200 psi.

$110 plus $11 shipping for 100ft 1/2 inch 3000psi pressure washer hose in black with male ends

a hose has an inner tube of rubber then either one or two wires surrounding that inner tube then a rubber cover.
the 4000psi one wire hose bursts at 12000psi the 6000psi two wire hose bursts at 18000psi. the inner tube on both of these hoses is identical. if you generate heat you are going to wear the inner tube out.

think of it this way: you light a match to the inner tube and burn a hole through the inner tube, then the hose will leak at the part of the hose where there is a hole. whether you have one or two wires will not stop a leak at this point as the water will get through the strands of wire.

it does not matter whether there is one or two wires, the inner tube has been destroyed by heat.

now most pressure washing is done at 2500psi and the 4000psi hose bursts at 12000psi the pressure is barely effecting the hose.

we do not even carry 2 wire hose for pressure washers, as 95% of the units manufactured are rated 4000psi or less.

Think of it as a tire..... Atire with one ply is good. But a 10 ply tire is better. Less plys = more holes. And i dont know anyone who carries a 200' section of hose when they work. You end up only picking up about 4 -10 feet then move drag less than half of it ect.ect. I use 2 wire and dont have to worry about sharp edges, bending, cars running them over, and weight. and if you dont think heat plays a role in hose wear you.....
heat makes things expand

Amen, Joe! Great Analogy!!!!

let's crunch some numbers on 4000psi hose vs two hose hose

Our selling price delivered on a 100ft section of 4000psi hose is $90 delivered
I find a typical price for a 100ft section of two wire hose is $130 delivered.

now lets make some assumptions on the life of the two hoses:

assume that the 4000psi hose lasts 4 months and the two wire hose lasts 6 months
your cost per month for a 100ft hose 4000 psi hose is $22.50 per month
your cost per month for a 100ft hose two wire is $21.65 per month.

is it worth it to use a hose that weighs anywhere from 13-18 lbs more depending on your two wire spec for $0.85/month?

do you not think your productivity will increase by more that $0.85 per month if you got to the lighter weight hose?

do you not want your worker to like you more now that you have allowed them to use a lighter weight hose?

all for measly $0.85 per month

Do you want the insurance that that hose will not break inside a restaurant and scald you, your employees or god forbid an employee of the restaurant?
Or if it breaks and lets water and chem go inside of a resaurant we are cleaning, the damage will be $$$$? then the answer is yes. I want the insurance it will not break.

I understand the physics behind the explanations given - but from my experience, 2 wire has been better for me in hot water pressure washing. I've had 100' 1 wire sections from one vendor and a 50' 1 wire section from another vendor blow on me when using hot water, not at the ends but away from the ends.

I now only use 1 wire for cold water residential washing.

I've had 2 200' 2 wire sections last for 2 years - they have withstood being dragged around sharp corners around buildings and columns at shopping centers, with hot water and no problems.

Perhaps it was substandard hose, but even if it is just for my peace of mind I will stick to 2-wire for my application - the extra weight is not a huge issue in our production rate or profitability.

my 2 cents.

I would just say, use what works for you.

It will and they do break.
However with hoses in our application they are repeatedly drug around sharp corners, over sharp edges of ducts hung over the sides of buildings where the entire weight of the hose and contents are supported on a small area.
There is far too much to go wrong and minimizing the risk is worth more than the few dollars saved for cheaper hoses. For out door and flatwork cleaning they are probably fine
Just over two years ago we purchased some "bargain" one wire chinese made hose from a internet vendor. It was complete trash we should have sent them back upon arrival not one section lasted more than 5 months from when we got it.
we went back to the goodyear neptune 2 wire blue hose and there is one 100 foot section we are still using today. On average we got about a year and a half of use out of the hoses. On the same note we traded out the chineese general and no name chinnese knock off hose end fittings after the necks of the male ends developed deep notches from being pulled. Every one of the Parker fittings have still worked fine and the better machining internally makes the O rings last longer and the collars on the female fittings are still just about as smooth today as the day they were bought. The old addage "you get what you pay for" comes to mind.

Agreed.......

United, I thought the standard safety factor was always 4 to 1 ?

I always found that the smooth soft covered hose lasts much longer for me, do you carry any of those?

When I have had hoses break away from the ends it seems like it was almost always a spot where there was a chink in the cover and the wire had rusted. When the cover wears down to the wire it seems like the dragging keeps the wire rust free and they can go a long time like that.

Hi Tom

we do not carry smooth cover hose at this time. as far as longer lasting than rough cover i have not received a definitive answer on this from contractors. some like smooth cover some like wrap cover.

4000psi pressure washer hose bursts at 12000psi, this would mean 3 to 1 factor

i need to find an sae handbook to give you a definite answer

Thanks United. Didn't see the 1/2" hoses on the website. It's interesting, the wrapped cover looks and feels way tougher, but the soft cover always held up longer for me, like the give or bounce kept it from grinding down. That's on 100% flatwork.

Tom

we carry 1/2inch in 3000psi rating. about $1.10ft ends included

good for higher gallon per minute pressure washing machines
