I think Matt's secret is hot air. He has a massive supply. In fact most hot air comes from Southern California, it could even be the world's largest supplier.
I've gotten it down right now to where you only need a small car tire inflator to run the machine so it is literally wheel in (or carry)a 5 gallon bucket with a box on top, mix your chem in the bucket, plug in compressor, spray foam, pick nose (or butt) for 30 minutes(1 hr for chinese or heavy grease) , wash off with a water hose and go home. It took a lot of tweaking and a lot of bitching from my guys and some serious wounds but it was worth it.
The unit is the same one from Delco, the "Mean Foamer 5" but I get them direct from the manufacturer because I am special There is another unit that I use from those guys that is a bit heaver but works as well. I would suggest getting the "Mean Foamer 5" as you can wheel or carry this one in much easier and with my modification you can run it off of a tire inflator instead of a 20 gallon 7cfm compressor. Total weight about 20 lbs and space in your truck needed is that of a 5 gallon bucket.
Hi Matt,
"...you can run it off of a tire inflator..."
Are you talking about the 2 gallon pancake compresser -you mentioned at the start of this post or a smaller one? Also, seems that with with your new revolutionary process of foam, pick nose and wash off with water hose - you have eliminated at least one helper. Maybe even making it a one man job? How many hood cleaners does it take to pick a nose? I am thinking of selling off my trucks and running out of a mini-cooper. Do you still need to go on the roof? I can get one of those 22 ft ladders that fold down to fit into your pocket-as seen on TV. This is going to revolutionize hood cleaning.
Thanks a lot Matt, I use the V501 from Delco for my Hood cleaning needs. So I'll need to get me one of those Foamers.
Thanks for the response Matt, and for the research that I'm sure will make some of the new customers with neglected Hoods a much easier task to tackle.
If you look on the page it is back ordered, I think that is because we just bought them out of these things. I will do a detailed drawing of how to modify the foamer to be used with these because if you buy them and try to hook this up to the unit it will not work so if anyone is thinking about just getting the foamer and this inflator and hooking it up hold off for now.
Matt,
That's awesome. BTW, Sears sells the same inflater Craftsman 120 volt Air Compressor Inflator Sears item #02875117000 Mfr. model #75117. It's on their site.
Ya, I really think a new day is dawning for us. Not until recently has anyone ever made equipment especially for greasers so we have had to take existing equipment and modify it for our uses. This is no exception but it is a tool that could really revolutionize our industry, no more of this crap:
The foamer with the resivoir is similiar to the one I purchased for like 60 bucks, it does blow foam but has no dwell time. Seems to be to much water, tried increasing flow of chemical that helped a little but not much. Cannister will not do 1 medium hood have to refill at least 1 time, JMO peice of crap but the customers seem to really like the foam idea, I would to if it worked better!
I just ordered a foam tip that I am going to put on the end of my wand and begin the experiment. the foam tip costs about $100 but you don't have to use a pump up sprayer. You drop a hose from the tip into a contrated mix of caustic and a foaming agent.
Has anyone tried this yet? I am concerned that I can only get about a 3% caustic solution this way. the foam tip dilutes the chemical. any advice?
Having a bit of trouble with the tire inflators running the machine. If anyone is planning on buying one, be prepared to get a compressor that runs cfm to the spec of these foamers which is about 6-7 cfm @ 60 psi.
The first week in March Matt sent me via UPS his “Foamier Package”. This month I simply had too much on my plate and this was simply not something I want to deal with. Plus, I was not excited at the “New Age Product.”
One of my key manger reported Sunday that his Landa needed service and he would take the machine in on Monday and reset his Sunday jobs off until later in the week. Since we had a key for both jobs I decided to have his test the “Foamier Package”. He was not happy, but said he would give it a good test. Both jobs were out of Nextel coverage and he was unable to give me a heads up. I didn’t expect much.
His first job was a donut shop. He went through the steps and completed the job with the foamier in 3.5 hr. The setup took most of the time and the job turned out great. Everything turned out fine and the product worked fine. Well, this job is so easy anything would work on this job. He did work out the kinks in the system and went to the second job a Korean BBQ joint. Simply put the made two Foaming applications and it cleaned at least 90% down to bare metal in 4.5 hours. They Foamed the wok line and it cleaned up like new. They used the cold/warm water for wash down with good results.
We did spike the “Foamier” mix a bit. We added some Super Doug to the mix. Matt will have to tell what his “MIX” contains.
My manager is acting like a kid with a new train for Christmas. He now want to use the system on all jobs.
I did visit the stores on Monday and they looked good and the customer was happy.
Time will tell-my manager is sold-he has been with me for 11 years.
I'm glad your guys liked it, I am 2 for 2 now with you, first I converted you over to the magnetic scraper and now the foamer.
I started using that Dawn Ultra Concentrate you told me about Dave mixed with one pound of Sodium in a fiver. Boy that stuff foams up like a motherfaqer. You go through a lot of the Dawn though, I wish I could get that stuff in drums. Normally it takes us 3 pounds of Sodium, a little Potash and some pricey surfactant to get these jobs done now that we are dong for pennies with the foamer. Plus not having to bring a pressure washer to jobs anymore is the sweetest part. We have even done a couple with cold water that have come out pretty good. Heck maybe tonight I will foam down a hood and throw a bucket of water on it to see if it comes clean, dont think I wont try it
It takes 2 men to run (sorry Josh) one guy to run the foot pump and one to foam, but it creates a decent foam and takes up hardly any space in the truck. You have to modify the tip to work with the Mean Foamer 5. Not the shaving cream type we were getting with the bigger compressors but it only takes maybe an extra hit with the foam we are getting with the foot pump.
Here is a charbroiler we hit with the "foot pump foamer" that came out very nice. 2 hits with the foam and a warm water hose rinse. Notice how the foam is a little bit watery compared to previous foam pictures. If you want more foam you will have to get a bigger compressor but I don't think it is worth it:
