Favorite Soap

In the interest to keep this board "alive" and for my own information....What is your favorite house wash soap and why?

I use....Barlox, am not impressed and is pricey!
Also Dawn...cheap and effective..
Lastly R109...good all around soap...
My favorite right now...a mixture of 109 and dawn...

KO has some real good soaps. We like trailer brite for an all around great cleaner for trucks and trailers. It is also good on houses. R109 is ok with some bumping up.

I buy RPC678 from Steve R. Its great. Really does a good job on gutters.

I always like to add some "pure rinse" Liquid Cascade dishwasher soap to my house wash mixtures. It acts as a surfactant and also keeps the windows from streaking most of the time.

I like BD20, a 6% butyl degreaser made by Ideal Chemical Products. It gets gutter streaks well, too. For mold, mildew, and algae, I mix a little bleach in to kill the stuff.

Your exactly right. Steve has great chemicals and his customer service is even better.

Does Gutter Shock get the streaks off gutters without actually brushing them. How would you compare it to Xteriors gutter zap? And does citriclean work with the x-jet nozzle? Thanks

Chris

Gutter Shock is better than Zap, in my experience. With zap, I had to brush EVERY gutter I cleaned...I tried it in many concentrations and it just would not do the job as advertised. It is billed as a touchless gutter cleaner, but it wasn't that way for me.

With Gutter Shock, I keep a 50/50 ratio of shock and water in a pump up sprayer. I spray the gutters with it (or fascia and soffit, if needed), let it dwell for a minute or two, and spray off with 800 psi...I rarely have to re-spray an area, and when I do, the 2nd application does the trick. Every once in a great while I'll get a gutter that has to be lightly brushed, but that's rare.

Citracleen was designed for use with the Xjet. 1/2 gallon (or a bit more if you're running over 4gpm) in a 5 gallon bucket, 1-2 gallons of pool chlorine, and other additives like rinse aids or was as needed, and that's my wash mix for use with the Xjet. The stuff just works awesome. Not cheap, but it is a time saver, and the increased price is made up many times over in time saved. It is the same with everythign else...you get what you pay for. I went the R-109 route, mixed with chlorine, and I could never get things clean as quickly as I wanted. Most houses I could rinse with a garden hose.

Tim:

You're right about Steve's customer service...the guy will go way out of his way to help someone out, to offer advice, etc. His goal isn't to offer the cheapest chems, but the best. He's doing a bang-up job at it!

Thanks for the info on cleaning chemicals-I'll have to give both of them a try. When you use citriclean, I assume you're using it through the x-jet with no proportioner. I often use the red proportioner with my housewash mix, this way I don't have to fill up multiple buckets of housewash to clean a house. Is there a way to use citriclean & the bleach you add with a proportioner tip and if so which one would you recommend? Finally, what concentration of bleach do you use. I use 12% soduim hypochlorite. Thanks for your help!

Chris

You could mix it stronger and use a proportioner if you want...If you're using 1/2 gallon of citracleen and 1 gallon of chlorine, you could use 1 gallon of citracleen and 2 gallons of chlorine and use the proportioner that cuts your draw rate in half. I prefer to use it wide open, mainly so I don't have to mess with the little proportioners and pull my hoses off, etc. I go through 7-10 gallons on a typical house, so I'm only refilling my Xjet bucket once during the wash process. I fill my Xjet bucket, set it on the corner of the house, and fill another bucket with chems and place it at the opposite corner. If I were washing something really huge where I'd have to carry a LOT of buckets of cleaner, I might think about using the 50% proportioner and making my wash mix double strength.

The chlorine I can get here is 10.5%. With 12% I'd just use a little less.

Thanks for the reply and the info about chemicals. I'll definitely be trying out some of your suggestions!

One more question for Oneness:

You mentioned you use gutter shock from a pump sprayer at a 50/50 ratio. I believe the x-jet without proportioners give you a 50/50 mix of water and chemicals (please correct me if I'm wrong). Could I spray the gutter shock on the gutters using the x-jet? Have you tried applying the gutter shock using the x-jet and if so how did it work? I live in the mountains and the difference of height from one end of a home to another can be 2-3 stories even on a one story home. It would be difficult for me to reach the gutters with chemicals with a pump sprayer-but the x-jet certainly could reach that high. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Depending on your machine, you can get a 1:1 ratio, but that is with, I belive, a 2gpm machine. I know many who do use Gutter Shock with the Xjet with good results, even with a 2:1 ratio. I use the pump up mainly to save chems, and to keep from having to use more than one chem with the Xjet at one time...It is a pain to have to soap the house down, change chems, flush the line, spray the gutters, flush the line, etc. Most of the houses I do are single story and the gutters are easily reached from the ground.

If I had to do a lot of multi-story (2-3 feet) houses where I'd need to get the shock up that high, I'd do it differently...either Xjetting or setting up some sort of small cart mounted shur-flo setup just for shock.

I do use the xjet when using guttershock. I use a 50/50 mix and xjet it on the gutter with great results and on occasion I may have to hit the area with a brush. This mix is with a 4gpm machine.

I have tried TONS of House wash soaps. All I use now is Dawn and a rinse agent.
