Difference in hoses

I got a section of 165' of the 1/2" hose from United hose a couple years ago and it is still working great but it is not used that much as it is a lot heavier than the regular 3/8" hose. It was hard to coil that hose on the ground so I installed it on a hose reel, a lot easier to store that way. I was coiling it on the ground as I did not have a hose reel to store it on but after coiling it on the ground a few times, I pulled a hose off the hose reel and put this one onto the hose reel. I am still tugging it with one hand while cranking the hose reel with the other hand.

I've found the single wire 1/2" to be not bad at all, get used to it in no time.

With the larger diameter hose there is less pressure loss.

Here is an example: 100' of 3/8" diameter hose will have about 134psi loss per 100' running an 8gpm machine.

With the same 8gpm machine and 1/2" diameter hose you will only have about 45psi loss per 100'.

Not many people doing commercial flatwork use the 100' sections that I know of, most use 150' or 200' on hose reels. Some have longer like 300' or even 400' for large property cleaners. I used to have a hose reel with 300' of 3/8" hose on it for house washing and it is a great hose, I will probably mount that hose reel on the new trailer, it was tearing the angle iron top rail of the trailer when it moved some when driving down the road.
