Phil Ackland

Last weeks "Jerry Springer" teleseminar. I am trying to download the recording of last weeks teleseminar on virtual assistants and certification, but can't figure out how to do it. Vivi was in a car accident and is in the hospital. She is ok, but...

Anyone want to get in touch and help walk me through getting this on. I think everyone will enjoy it
:D

Yeah, I wasted an hour of my day listening to it. It was just a conversation about someone's career as a fire investigator, specifically geared toward arson. How arson pertains to Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning, I'll never know.

Did anyone listen in? I completely forgot about this until I saw this post. Maybe we can unCanadianize Phil a little and he will figure out how to share the recordings:D

What does unCanadianize mean? I couldn't find it in my American Heritage Dictionary.

What does arson have to do with restaurant fires? EVERYTHING. The first thing the investigator looks at with any restaurant fire is the financial status of the eatery along with the ignition point. Owners have been know to torch their units and blame the disaster on the cleaner or the suppression system – they have even been known to consider this is a way to remodel.

Arson is a major ingredient in the overall fire protection industry.
:)

Christopher, Arson as in cause and origin (as opposed to an intentionally set fire) has everything to do with kitchen exhaust cleaning. If there is a fire, an investigator will determine the "cause and origin" of the fire.
Hardly a waste of an hour. Broaden your horizons and you will find a wealth of knowledge that will help you at some point in your life.

FYI
Guys Just so you know -- We are doing two somewhat separate seminars

One Ask the Guru will have more of an interaction feel to it. We will focus on issues that relate to exhaust cleaning, sales and marketing and small business operation -- Basic things of interest to the exhaust cleaning industry.

The other Phil Ackland Interviews… will be primarily interviews with interesting and knowledgeable people in the fire community. It will be more of an interview style.

Ron called me today, to discuss my post. I explained that I expected the conversation to be more relevant to KEC. I just want to see some information linking arson to kitchen exhaust fires. Post a link...

Bring something to the table, like this article linking the importance of ducumentation to KEC...
http://www.philacklandcleaning.com/docs/article05.pdf
...then you'll get people's attention.

Did you figure out how to download the audio yet? I think you may be able to charge to listen to the "Jerry Springer" one:D

Its good to know that there are 2 different seminars. Some guys are interested in all facets of the fire protection industry, and some of us are primarily interested in the kitchen exhaust side.

I know you are a busy guy Phil (cervezas on the beach in Cabo, fishing trips in the Canadian Rockies, tee times at Augusta National :D ), so maybe you can designate someone to post up when the seminars will be happening a couple of days before they happen.

As far as the time goes, 10 AM is a stretch for me and probably most of the guys on the West Coast. If they could be bumped back a couple of hours that would be sweet.

Christopher, if you would open up your eyes just a little, you would see that there is more to this industry than just cleaning kitchen exhaust systems to bare metal. Investigation of fires is one of the most if not the most important part of our industry. There is this new website called "Google" and if you type in "kitchen exhaust fires" in the "search bar" you will come up with a lot of information that you may find relevant to our industry. Take a look at the article attached.

Being closed minded will get you nowhere....

Matt
Is that the one where me and your buddy from Georgia we having and "Exchange"? That was a good one and it is the one I wanted to get up.

Let me know.

I'm on the road shortly Got 20+ AHJ in New Orleans for a one day seminar and then something like 250 in Austin TX. Will be preaching the value of maintenance to these guys.

Thats the one right before the interview with the heated exchanges. It's good that guys are passionate about what we are doing.

I am surprised that out of the 20 or so guys that were on, only a few guys seemed to really care about the subject of certification, at least enough to speak up.

After that call, I started to realize that what Phil was saying has a lot of merit. The gist of it was that we need more guys certified, not less, to help the industry move forward, and I now see how that will help the industry as a whole. The online certification will be great, and the more guys we can get certified this way, the better.

As always, Phil's infinite wisdom shines through, I just have a hard time understanding Canadian sometimes:D

Keep in mind if the end user started only hiring certified guys the prices would be more stable. Therefore the contractors doing the job correctly may not become the hacks.

Its frustrating in our industry because so many think its just cleaning stuff. Anyone can do....

We know the with the proper knowledge things only get done right. Money plays as the motivater to accomplish the job the right way.
