I'll admit, when I still had my old S-10, I started to wonder what was going through the customers when I'd roll in in my 1991 S-10 with a rolled on paint job,Ha,Ha,..Although I don't care much what people think,..these people aren't just people,...they are the ones who put food on my table. I guess my biggest concern was new customers,..and what they must be wondering about my knowledge and equipment was like,...I mean,..I didn't look successful,..
I started to look at jobs when I was on my way home in my work rig,...It's always clean, rust free and looks like it can get the job done, and I'm also in my work uniform,... I still do that quite a bit actually,..out of convenience also. But I finally did buy something nicer than my old truck,...it's not new as I said,..but at least it has a nice clean look,..and I own it.
And I don't do enough in marketing myself to be in commercial sales, not really interested in commercial,..but if I was I'd most likely have to change,..literally,..Ha,Ha,. When I look at residential work,..it's usually in shorts and flip flops ,..not a big deal,..because I do think customers like to see you're just a regular guy,..but that's just my take on it.
When I started out in 1996 I did make it a point to have my company name on truck and clothes, And that was probably an integral part of why my business is in a nice "comfort" zone these days...After this many years I fortunately have a great clientele built up and am also well known in my area,..so I don't worry so much about making an impression these days,..(Old truck was just too far gone,..even for me, Ha,Ha,.)
*Here's the other thing,..Just because I'm not a "car guy",...doesn't mean I don't like what I do have,.... the maintenance on what I do have,.. work and personal trucks is top notch,..Air filters changed every year,..Oil always checked and changed at regular intervals, transmission fluid/filter changed every year, etc...and a pat on the dash every now and then,Ha,Ha,..
