Stand Back, Anthony has the Foamer

Anthony,
If you are doing a Mickey-Dees and they use the smaller ducting with the pull out fryers ( I think it was the standard set up from 93-2004) foam from the top and pull the tip up the foam will fill the tube and not go all the way up. Let it sit and drain and just blow it out and you will not have to do any duct work as long as it has been maintained.Usually we don't have to even spin them just the water running down the duct cleans it out ( BY the way I LOVE cleaning good old fashoned american grease off SO MUCH EASIER THAN THAI or chineese) Congrats on the foam !!!!

I have one already, but I will make sure it will work with the foamer before embarking on all this. If not I will keep it mind in figure all the expenses. I have a Japanese steakhouse with 21 hoods I bid today and if I get the job, I will probably go ahead and make the move. I am sure I will have more questions for you once I cross over to the foamer side of the world. Thanks for the help.

Hey I need some help on a tempanyaki (Sp?) house only 6 hoods, but would like to know how you are going to price this.

That foamer is bad to the bone!!!! I think someone looked into this before...Mbryan??

Hey Trey...pm Alexy and definetly want to talk to Matt...Jason is also a foamer..those guys have more experience with it than I. And they are all great guys, don't be afraid to pick up the phone and ask them.....

Of course you can always ask me, I'm doing about 6 more jobs by Friday so I should be fairly familiar with the process by then....

You da man Ant!!!

well, here is that Micky D's....this place hadn't been cleaned in over 2 1/2 years....how do these places get away with this crap...???????

The Foam absolutely kicked major butt. This McDonalds is inside Walmart and they were closed so I had to rinse down the hood with a water hose. I think it would have turned out a better had I been able to take the pw inside...

Once you get a helper.

Its worth it Anthony. Thats is what you helper does when you are taken care of the big stuff.

Matt

Two guys ------ Two guns ..one shots hood and up flue ..other guy shots fan and down flue at the same time ..just wrap it good.

Dude that foamage is awesome!! Ant- I looked at a little squirtgun Electric PW at Home Cheapo for that kida stuff...I think it was $169 bucks here so oughta be like $100 bucks in the States...It was a Husky brand (Home Cheapo Brand) it was like 1800 PSi, I figure hook it up to the hot water faucet and foam away...it's a wining comb when acess is no good...Wow man how'd the littel 2" x2" duct turn out with your Foam?

Hey I need some help on a tempanyaki (Sp?) house only 6 hoods, but would like to know how you are going to price this.

I bid $200 per hood and thought I might have bid myself out of the picture, but he called today and is scheduled for next week. I wasn't sure what to bid they were 5 foot hoods with 1 fan per two hoods, except the one in the kitchen had its own fan hood and duct. Plus I kept in mind that it was asian cooking. I hope to do a bang up job and get this thing contracted for multiple cleanings. I guess we will se how it goes next week and I figure as long it doesnt take 40 hrs I will come out pretty good. I hope this helps you with your bid. Good Luck.

It still amazes me to this day how that grease and dirt just runs off that stuff it's cool. Thats whats nice about this work, instant results and repeat business.

Paul...it doesn't run off of Asian so easily...or at least I haven't found the trick. I haven't foamed any asian stuff yet, but so far lots and lots of elbow grease and lots and lots of hot chemical. PITB if you ask me, if they stay on schedule and pay a decent price, I say go for it.

I bought a foamer from Larry, and so far have not been pleased with it. The foam keeps coming out too wet. We started by foaming w/Cardiablast. We finally got the foamer to foam. Then I changed to dry SH beads from Mt Hood Chemical in Portland. We almost got the foamer/chemical ratio to work, then the cheap Chinese POS air compressor quit working after only 5 hours of service. I took the Chinese POS back, got a loaner. Last week we used the rest of the foamer and the SH beads and the loaner compressor. The constant problem seems to be the foam is too wet and slids off the sheet metal. We also use about twice the amount of chemical. Of course at $.59 a pound, that is not too expensive. We have tried 40 # to 65 #. 50 PSI seems to be best, but we still get a wet foam that slides off. If we just barely open the valve, we get a dry foam, but the following foam is again too wet. We use 6 oz of chemical to a gallon of mixed SH. I have tried 8 oz per gallon, no difference. I do mix the SH fairly hot, so hot that it often boils even using cold water. We have adjusted the foamer control know, and found a point that seems to work the best, but the foam always slids right off, no dwell time at all. Should I try Dawn dishwashing soap?

Douglas, it sounds like the problem is the foaming agent that you are using. The right mixture for me has been turning the adjustment on the foamer all the way to wet, then back towards dry 3 full turns. Another thing is the compressor. It has to be strong enough....the compressor is the trick to good foam according to just about everybody that has one....

Remember that you need to have a little bit of a wet mixture. The dryer the foam the weaker the chemical and less effective. I would give Morgan Gallacher a call and get some good foaming agent and then go from there.

good luck and keep us informed.

The foamer chemical came with the foamer, from Larry. I havent called Larry yet, probably should be my next step. Does the foamer work differently with different chemicals? Do some chemicals "kill" the foamer chemical?

I believe so. I know that it took Matt awhile to find the "right" one. Some people have had good luck with Dawn, some haven't. I'm not positive because I haven't tried it yet, but I think Sodium Hydroxide kills the foaming surfectant agent in Dawn....just what I've heard and I could be wrong. Dawn will foam beautifully without SH for sure...I've done that, but I don't know about Dawn and SH.

We are not sold on the foamer thing either. Mixed results. What if any results is anybody getting from using a thickener chemical in the caustic, like that Bonzi stuff, which is pretty expensive. If you took some Bonzi, like 2 cups say, and mixed it into a hot caustic brew, would it thicken and stick on the grease. Like they say it does? That would cut out the extra step of the compressor and foamer, which are 2 extra things I would rather do without. After all the foamer is to make the chemical stick to the grease longer. If anyone uses Bonzi, inquiring minds would like to know.
