Home based now, if company grows will buy land and build a shop.

We originally had an office/warehouse space for our dry clean operation. Since subbed the cleaning out, and just sorted dry cleaning we could do it anywhere.

We took the money we were spending on office/warehouse rent ($2000.00/mo) and added it to our house payment and bought a house right in the middle of town next to all the interstate crossings.

It has 500 square ft of office,
400 feet of storage room,
1000 square ft garage/warehouse space,
300 square ft shop space,
30x50 walled concrete pad for storing equipment
and a pullthrough drive where I park the truck and lift all the time.

Whew! It sure feels smaller than that!

Plus, it's all a writeoff. This is attached to the house, but there is a distinct line between the office and home. We've already been audited and it's a good writoff.

We found that we dont have the discipline needed to have a home office. We never got anything doen, always had the TV on, take the dog to the park, etc...

Now that we have an office/warehouse that we actually have to get up and go to every morning, things run a whole lot smoother. We have about 1200sqft (200sqft office and 1000sqft warehouse) and it runs less than 700/month. Even though thats a good price, its still aheavy expense. But, our productivity is through the roof. (When I say "our productivity" I mean Celeste since Im out of town)

We have an area setup for chem storage, a welding area, and a general storage area. Plus we keep the work truck and trailer in there at all times. It never sits outside.

If you need OFFICE SPACE for the sake of having an office,,,,,I have heard of people using mini storages.......LOL
Me personally I am staying with the home base....of course I did build a house with a study that I use as my office. Works well for me. Besides I do not need a showroom......but I do need a web site....and that will be coming soon.

Unfortunately that's just the opposite with us. We rarely watch tv and it's hard to stop working. Sometimes we start at 5am and only go into the house to eat and go straight to be from the office. When the economy was better it wasn't so bad that way, but now we're trying to overdo everything to make sure everything gets paid.

All home based here as far as office goes. However I do have all my parts and equipment/rig stored away about 3 miles from my home.

So Ant what have you done? This was started back in 2006. I have my office in my home. It is in a dedicated room, phone, fax, computer, fridge, oh yeah and a desk. Our Equipment I keep in a warehouse with our chems and supplies. I like having my employees come to my shop instead of my home. I have a deal, I have 1000 sq ft plus 1000 ft outside plus parking for 500.00 month. Its in a warehouse park 2 miles off the interstate.

Mike, that's one thing I really like about having a non home based office/warehouse, is that the employees have a place to go. Our house is so far south, that it would be a major pain for them to drive all the way down. Our office is right off of the beltway and Hwy 35 in Pearland so it is a nice central spot w/ easy access to the while city.
