I think it is a total waste of money. I ran a Half page add for a year in the Yellow Book, it cost me $800.00 a month and we got nothing from it.

I had a two inch add last year in one book which looked good and paid 38.00 per mo. This year they offered me a 4x4 inch add for the same price as last year,,,38.00 per mo and I added another 4"x4 in another smaller town with alot of 2'nd / 3rd home snow bird Yankee's for 20.00 per mo so I'm spending 58.00 per mo. I got about 5K from the book last year, which started in June. Already have about 5K from the book this year lined up so it's working for me.
I think you guys are crazy doing the quarter and half page things. Now come on do you ONLY call that guy with the BIG add and no one else??? NO...So why would you pay for that... Now if your in like LA or Miami with 1400 pw'ers in the book that might make some sense but I laugh at the ONLY other guy here with the big add and I take business from him by SELLING when I get them on the phone.
But yes you need to negotiate when the advertisers call this year. I have it on good authority that a lot of company's are dropping advertising or cutting budgets in half. One biz I know here paid 2400 for the yr last year and he told them no this year and they instantly cut it to 1200.00. Name your price and let them take it or leave it.

Yellow pages is good just to put your name out there. Anything over the one liner is a waste

i got a little irritated when i asked if i could put my name and website info. they would not let me list the website so i did not list with them.

Man that's weird!!!!

I do YP and get pretty good feedback out of them. Too costly tho, I'm doing 6 books, for the past 5 years.

Their prices went down by 2/3 this year. It's about time. I went back to an "inline" one inch ad which I had about 3 or 4 years ago (ours come out every six months) that was much more effective than the credit card sized ad that cost me over $700 per month and produced no calls.

I got 1 job in a year from the yellow pages....of course they put me in the adjoining city next to the one I live in.......and my home phone number instead of my work number (cell).........did get a call from another guy wanting an estimate to clean a drive way.....come to find out he just bought him a pressure washer and just wanted to know what to charge...... I am not renewing for this next year....

Without going into a long story, I do not have an ad in the
AT&T Yellowpages for this year in the Pressure Washing Equipment and Services area or the Water Pressure Cleaning section.

They did open up a new section: Power Washing and I am the only company there, that is cool, kind of like a mixed blessing.

If you think about it, many people think about power washing or pressure washing so unfortunately I will not get calls from the Pressure Washing section but I am the only one in the Power Washing section so that should be good!

On another note, I got a letter from Idearc (sp) about their ch.11 bankruptcy and had a form for me to fill out like if I was a person that they owed money to I think.

I am not sure what to do with that form as they do not have a book in my area, only the AT&T phone book unless it is the little town phone book for the surrounding towns that I was in the past couple years.

Does anyone know what that form is for? I do not understand what it wants.

Thanks.

You only need to fill it out if they owe you money or service already paid for.

IE a secured (not likely) or unsecured creditor.

11 is reorganization. If you were a creditor you could opt to a payment plan or not.

Toss it. You'll probably get future notices as they want to make sure they don't forget a creditor or the debtor is not protected by bankruptcy.

we have one main book it's dex. all the others are a lot cheaper and I get no results. You have to realize a lot of the ppl that are old have the money and they still use the phone book. at least 35% of my business is phone book. just an average sized ad works well. The winter is a killer though i try to pay more over the busy season and get it paid off for winter.
