Yard Signs on the Highway

i sent a guy out about three weeks ago to put up some ad signs in the medians and at certain key intersections. Figured no foul, however....received ticket in the mail today for "erecting an illegal sign in the state right of way" $112.00

I am now researching my state's laws regarding this...

Well factoring in the signage penalty, how'd your ROI turn out?
 
How do political signs get away with it? You see them on corners of intersections all the time
 
Political hacks exclude themselves from those sort of laws. In some areas it is illegal to cover up an opponents sign, but it is also illegal to remove the sign, so unless the cop actually catches the person, there is no way to cite.
I would send a note back saying that is not where I placed the sign. Just because someone else happened to put it there, it should not be your problem...Really, they need to prove that you did the illegal act before they can cite you. Just because it is there is not usually sufficient proof, unless you are in Alabama, or something.

But he's admitting he did it already, now walk in a lie saying 'I didn't put it there'....would make him no better than a political hack, union or an org for that matter.
 
Thats been the law for Maryland for years. It is hardly ever enforced and I have never heard of any fines. However, the other day looked like the state had crews out removing them all. I could swear there were 20 people in a 10 mile radius pulling signs. Thats a first I have seen of it.
 
Did the ticket come certified mail? If not throw the ticket in the garbage!! They have no way to prove you did this. What stops you from taking a competitors sign and placing it in the same place so he gets a ticket. Or anybody else for that fact. Im sure pollititions dont pay those fines.
 
Next time put them 9 feet up on a tree. LOL
 
Unless you sign a ticket and promise to appear I don't think they have anything. They are just trying to bluff a fine out of you. Unless they have a photo of you placing signs it's BS.

Most of our city's sign ordinances have an exemption for real estate directional signs. But they can only go out Friday after 5pm and have to be gone by Sunday night or something like that. That sparked a whole industry of companies that supply, place and remove the signs.
