i am getting ready to start my buisness back up and was wondering which would have the best success rate. door hangers or mailing post cards for residential work i was hoping some of you would know from experience and pass that along to me. i'll visit commercial prospects in person. i still have some from before when i did this. but i need residential for cash flow at the beginning thanks for any input you may have. i'll mainly be pushing house and concrete on the residential side along with fences

I found door hangers to work better, but more costly. Blitz it with all you've got! If you plan to hang them yourself, door hangers will likely give you more bang for your buck.

Hard to say, without knowing your local economy and how they shop. I think that's the way to get the most bang for your buck: Understanding your particular consumer and how they identify (if they do) with your service. Aslo changing trends in consumption i.e.; what worked last year may not work this year, maybe it will?!
Marketking is a difficult beast that I believe cannot be tamed, you can ride her up and down and all around, but in the end its just a ride. Marketing equals best educated guess, especially when starting a new type of advertising. There are so many variables that it becomes nearly impossible to guess what will work and what won't....There are industry guidelines on what certain types of marketing will yield percentage wise, however, i think alot of vets will tell you to get in front of as many people as you can.
Personally I don't do door hangers, I do tri-fold brochures, and I go out and door knock on saturdays; that's what works for me (i am a pretty descent salesperson[self proclaimed]) good luck!

I'm going to have them made to where i can write an estimated cost on them. A lot of times i think people don't call because they don't want a contractor to come out because in their mind they think it may cost to much. Where as if they get a good price on their house then i can build on their excitement to up sale them on their driveway. An automobile sales trainer once said selling is when you take your enthusiasum about your product and pass it on to the customer. However, i must first find a way to get in front of them

The problem with door hangers is alot of door dont have knobs. Just long skinny handles. The hangers dont hang well.

Check into the neighborhoods your planning on leaving these door hangers and fliers in, alot of the upscale neighborhoods you will want to target in the metro area will have no soliciting signs up as well as city ordinances against them. You will get called in most of Madison (for sure) and some of the upscale areas of Jackson. Madison will allow you to purchase a permit for this however if there is a no soliciting sign in the neighboor hood it supercedes the permit. Best of luck and once you get going I will throw you my residential leads here and there.

Thanks chris. Nothing surprises me about madison. I hope to work mainly in rankin county if possible. However, that is probably unlikely. I live close to puckett and madison county will eat up most of my profits in gas. I use to do some shopping center sidewalks around and will probably try to reconnect with them. Do you do hoods? I use to get asked to a good bit but want nothing to do with them or fleet. perhaps i could send them your way. I like concrete and residential.i'd like to meet you sometime.do You still have the equipment you were talking about on a thread at green earth?

Not sure how you found door hanger to be more costly? Who are you using? I have found direct mail to be much more costly. After the mailing list, post card printing and postage it is much more expensive then paying someone to pass out door hangers.

Use doorhangers.com for quantity but use gotprint.com or vistaprint for quality, I believe gotprint has been cheaper for everything I have every quoted between gotprint and vistaprint but I have never quoted doorhangers. We go door to door with postcards and don't use door hanger because the post cards are much cheaper so we can get quality and quantity for the same price. Our post cards come from gotprint and the quality is a 10 out of 10.
Good luck
