Where are we heading ?

You know, I've been hearing this concern for over 15 years, and it's likely not going away. Yet professionals are surviving and in often cases thriving even despite the low ballers and the poor economy.

Help me think guys. How can we better educate the consumer? My field is marketing and communications. I am here to help grow/improve/strengthen this industry. So I'll put my thinking cap on, but you guys help me. How do we get the message to the masses? And is that possible? Or does it just need to be one contractor educating at a time?

I think educating the customer is good but I think we need to convey that what we do is a proffesion and not a hobby. I am surrounded by Painters, plumbers, janitors, housewives, retired people, drunks, roofers, landscapers, mechanics, and the list goes on and on that do pressure washing.

I would try to do both of what your saying. I would try to get the message to the masses mainly thru the internet. Have your message where ever its at rank high on the Google searches etc. SEO the heck out of it. Could you do it thru an org or an online mag? Sure but is it realistic...Only time will tell. I also believe along while that is in progress you can also educate 1,2,3 etc. contractors at a time. Hit this from both ends.

This may seem a little controversial for some but I also believe in combining many types of Mobile contracting into one entity and then try to get the message to the masses along with educating a few contractors at a time.

I brought this point up in the past but people in there certain fields seem to take offense to be linked with others in different fields. Thats great and understandable but you need a number based group that grows together and what better way to do that then combining some of the masses. Thats a story for another time.

Here Here!!! I second this!!! I actually just found out that I lost a nice Roof Cleaning job worth over $ 8000.00 to a Painting Company. LOL...Gotta Love it. Maybe I should start bidding on their painting jobs and subbing them out. Lets see how they like that.
