What should people compare carefully before choosing an insurance policy?

I’m reviewing my insurance options after realizing that my needs have changed since I originally chose my policy. I now have different expenses, belongings, and travel habits, so I’m wondering what experienced policyholders look at before switching or renewing coverage. Which details deserve the most attention, such as deductibles, exclusions, limits, renewal terms, discounts, and the difference between basic and optional coverage?

My insurance needs changed after I moved and bought a few expensive household items. The old policy still seemed adequate until I calculated the replacement value of everything. Now I keep an updated inventory and review coverage once a year. It makes comparing policies easier and helps identify limits that have become outdated.
