if you had 12 2 story condos,24 decks,and 2000
sq. ft. of flatwork to wash and the water co. would'nt let you use a hydrent and there were no ponds,lakes,ect.... plus your in a drought emergency what would you do?
because of BIN LADIN they wont let anyone use a hydrent anymore. What can I/WE do about a water supply? Your not allowed to fill a tanker right now even if you had one.
one more thing im moving soon so im not thinking of digging a well right now.

i am

staying local just moving up in the world
no sense working your butt off and not spending some[all] of it.
We/I are thinking of hireing a cop to sit at the hydrent for 3 days $25 an hour just for him.
its the only way to use a hydrent
the water co. told me if i use a hydrent without a cop and meter its a jailable offence and a $2000 fine.

Why not hire someone with a tanker tuck to haul your water. The fire dep. in our area has a 3500 gal. truck that they use to fill peoples swimming pools. They normally charge a few hundred dollars for this.

Check into this it may be cheaper than hiring a police officer.

Hello Squirt,

In our area we have a few guys with transports (5-6000 gallon) that they use to fill swimming pools.

Might check in your area for the same thing.

hi

and thanks but they will only bring it in to dump it as in doing swimming pools they wont or bigger $$$ to sit there i dont have a 3500 gal holding tank if this is going to be the way it is as far as never being able to use a hydrent it will open some real big doors
i will get my cdl and a old fuel truck fill it and park it charge other wash guys just for this service that need it for the once in a while jobs
$250 a day most towns get $65 per hour for rent a cop. plus meter plus the water used.
i wonder whats the biggest tank i could haul on a trailer EMPTY then get it too the job then just hire the cop for 1 hour to watch me fill it then he goes his way and i do my thing
a goose neck trailer with a big plastic tank
only fill on job so not real heavy
what do you guys think?

I fill my tank at the local water company.......they have a 2" line for bulk filling. That would be better then the fire hydrant, if you are going to haul the water in yourself.

I investigated the water hauling companies when I was doing a bid for a beat up old shopping center with no working water. I found a company that would bring a trailer and leave it there for me. But, it was fairly pricey.

Hold on, this condo doesnt have water or you cant use it?

I have jobs that dont have water avialiable all the time. i pay a plumber to put in a tap. its about 150.00 dollars.

maybe i'm missing something? i also tap into irrigation lines.

this is a bid job for a management co. and they will not consider letting us use the peoples water. it would take 2-500 gal tanks for each unit[they are doubled up] and 12 units
so running for water 15 miles 1 way for a 1 man show i could'nt get the job.
and NO there is no place to run a hose from another site.

Have you talked to them about the problems you are having getting water to do the job, It would be much cheaper for them to work with you, I would give then the options with estimated cost involved and let them decide which method to use.

We've carried a 1500 gal water poly tank on it's side in a Chevy Silverado with an 8 ft. bed. We had to get it to a job site where we were cleaning a bunch of heavy equipment. We had another 3500 gal poly tank brought in on a buddies flat bed from another job site. Then we triaxled the water in from a water service and they filled them up even before we got there to start working the next day.

That's ridiculous that the management company won't allow you to hook into the individual units. What you should do is submit an estimate with a price if you have to triaxle everything in, rent the water poly tanks, etc., etc., then give them a seperate estimate with simply hooking up to the individual units. Make it ridiculous the difference between the two and maybe they will see the light. Tell them if you are allowed to hook up the units you can start filling your tanks the night before after like 11PM so you aren't inconveniencing anybody. Then you will be ready to go in the morning when you get there to work. That's about the only thing I can think of other than hauling it all in. What's the reason for the reluctance to use the water at the individual units? Maybe they are trying to get out of paying for the water if they have to reimburse the condo owners if they use their water.

Most of the time when we have problems like this it's usually because the client just needs to see the light. Opening their eyes usually involves us hitting them with all kinds of surcharges for making our life difficult until they see that it's cheaper doing it the original way we suggested.

If this water is in a condo complex the water is probably a common area charge. that means there is one water bill. if not how about the irrigation or the clubhouse?

Bringing water in is more expensive than using theres. i would not do a job if the customer had completly good water and said you cant use it bring your own. That sounds ridiculous!!!!

wait they have completly good water. they expect you to tanker truck this in? sound like a money maker to me... and some pretty stupid customers..

Oh well, I've heard and seen worse i suppose.

Good luck
