Wall mounted Fans Kitchen Exhaust

Hey kids,
I have been visiting many places that have systems so far out of compliance, it doesn't even matter what I tell them. Question is how does one clean a system with a vertical mount fan on the outside wall? There are no hinges and without using a man lift or scaffolding to hold theses babies up after removin the screws holding the fans to the ducts I do not know how to attack these.....any help?

Mount a new hinge kit then open the fan-simple.

Like dave said mount the hinges checking to see where the power comes in to the fan and mount the hinges on that side THEN unscrew the fan and slowly open the fan checking to see how long the power cord is. To re secure the fan screw it back using the old mounting screws and holes or just install a few new ones.

wall mounts

If the ductwork is acessible you can put a acess panel in a few feet from where it joins the fan. This way you dont have to remove it to clean it properly. You will probally want to wash your fan down, remove the access panel, clean the underside of the fan blades then go back & do the fan again from where you blew the stuf off the back side of the blades. I have a few like this that clean up really nice.

Don't forget to figure the hinge cost install onto your price. Or do you guys give them as part of the service and your convenience.

We have those here. David is right about the hinges.
It can be done.....for the right price.
Include whatever you have to do hinges etc in your price.
This way it is a take it all or leave it question for the guy.

If you install hinges and figure it as part of the bill - say $150, you're priced right out of the ballpark. Because no matter what you price it - the final price will be $150 more than the competition. "We need hinges to clean it properly". "How come XYZ co doesn't need 'em ?" " Because they suck-the grease out with their mouths." Or words to that effect. We've done the fans with baby spinners and installed oval cleanouts on the bowls ($35). Around here the wallmounts usually are attached to 3 ft or shorter horizontal ducts the feed right into the back of the hood. So not difficult to access.
