Vendor posts

Mike Hughes

Former Board Administrator
This board does not have many rules, but one of the few things I do ask is that vendors refrain from talking up their own products in any other section besides the distributor areas.

If you would like to tell the person about your product, email them directly, and feel free to make a post or thread in the distributor area.............but most of the sections on this bbs are intended for contracotors only.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or email me. If you ignore my request, I will be forced to delete the post.

Thanks for understanding.

So if you use something and believe it works the best, you should not post about it if you sell it?

George

Well, obviously you're going to think your product works best........or I would hope you would not be selling it.

But, in the past there has been tremendous amounts of abuse on these bulletin boards by vendors, including starting fake contractor posts just to solicit questions about their products.

We don't play that game here. I have a section devoted entirely to you guys, and you can go in there and go nuts............but, like I said you can email the individual person (if they have chosen to receive emails from the board).

If you product is truly superior, I'm sure we will all be familiar with them soon enough.

NO, the rule is that there is a distributor forum. You are allowed to post inthere all that you want. You can probably even provide a link to it, but you cannot make a direct, I sell this and it is wonderful post.
One of the advantages of posting here is that the e-mail addresses are opened up, and you can send a direct email to the inquiring party. That way you can deal with them directly, and they can ask you all sorts of questions.
I know that if you are new on the boards, or at least have been lurking a long time and so no one knows you, but really this is the most open board and there are a few reasons that this rule exists. Most of the boards are either owned by distributors, or accept advertising so that distributors, in the end, control the board.

As far as us non vendors, we are still allowed to discuss products right?

Gav

Are we not all vendors in a way?

Well I don't post prices and believe me unless you are a distributor for most products and I am not, your cut of sales is minute compared to those.

I have cleaned tile (VCT) for 22 years and because of the local market for tile floor maintenance is becoming so crowded just started cleaning carpet, and picked up on power washing and found a new company that sold me on the ability to control the spray and vacuum away the water and dirt and do it indoors or out; I prefer indoors. This was also appealing to me because it meant less lifting, body strain, and storing something else on a trailer or taking up a lot of room. Also it kept me from hiring people right off the top. The sales end was just an extra til they get some distros setup.

So when you see a post from me and see the picture. It is an ad just like banners and other flashing icons or scrolling text but it is also what I use and believe in and I turn it off when replies are necessary.

I also use this board for floor care http://www.i-boards.com/bnp/cfc/ and the public area is much more accessable for people searching for vendors in their area.

You can delete me if you want but aren't we all trying to sell ourselves?

George

George,

Yes but in the proper forum, Vendors, NO to this forum, why your post was moved. As for posting prices does not matter if your selling the product.

As for all of us being vendors in a way, if your referring to pressure washers selling what they do to prospective accounts, NO, we are selling a service, not a product and we don't do that here. If you are referring to some guys saying they use such and such a product and it works best, again NO they are not selling the product but only mentioning what they use and how they like it.
--------------------------------

Gav,

Yes you can talk about products all you want here as long as you are not selling them, a vendor is in business to sell products and that is where it gets sticky with a few people.

Some are both pressure washers and vendors, they can post here as long as they DO NOT SELL their products or make direct claims about only their products and links to their business.

To post pictures is ok also again as long as it is NOT SELLING and that is what George was/is doing.

He has been directed to post in the Vendor Forums. Mike moved his post there.

Thanks Jon, just wanted to clarify, so basically everything is still the same!

Well, I try to help people with my knowlege of the equipment I sell. I am not trying to sell those products. I know what is good and what is junk and I try to tell people the truth about everything wheather it is a product I sell or a product that I don't. I have made no attempt to make money off of those products. If I can't mention the product name in my post then I would feal like I am not doing what I do best. Give good advice. This subject is one of the reasons I left Dan's Board. We had many nasty discussions about so called advertizing. Don't chase me away from here too!

John, AKA WIZ...

John since you have been on these BBS you have never pushed products I have always tried to get you too. I dont believe mike was directing at anyone specific otehr than a couple of posts had gotten more by this or that from me me me me.

Its ok guys to say buy from me me me me me. I do it all the time. Just remember that theres a place to do it.

WIZ you have your own section and are the only dist on the BBS that has his place to answer questions and you dont even violate your own section. (john No mikes not talking to you)

He cant chase you away i made and agreement with You and Mike agreement is to keep that agreement good.

So stop all the sillyness guys nothing I believe has changed here, its free for everyone and advertisement is welcome in the dist section. contractors can talk about anything or any products they wish.

Yes Gav, to your heart's content! Feel free to include web addresses and/or phone numbers too.

George,

If you want to see the best way to handle it, do a search and limit your search to only posts by the user name "michael".

This guy works for Epps.......form Canada. They manufacture pressure washers.........and he has a vast knowledge that he shares with us from time to time.

In all of the posts he has made, he has never once mentioned an Epps product. You can help someone out without saying to use your products.

What you CAN do is create a signature file, and put your name and company name in there..........and you may attach a banner in there like there is in my signature file, but not much bigger please.

I don't need to see that monster pic of a surface cleaner every time you post..........

You can even put your url in the signature file, I don't care..........just dont post direct advertisements for your products.

As was said above, this is probably the most free bbs you will find for power washing...........so enjoy it, but follow this simple rule, OK? If you need help with posting the banner, let me know.

As Ron pointed out, nothing has changed here..........I just felt it was time to set up and state (restate) the way it needs to be.

John, I have no problems with you posting pics of various equipment as you do to steer people in the right direction.

Carry on!

Submitted for your approval.

My post should have read like this if I get what you want me to say.

My favorite hard surface cleaning tool looks like a carpet cleaning wand. It has 4 jets that set 1" from surface, is 12" wide, and aims directly at area to be cleaned. I can vacuum away the residue if necessary. As easy to use as a vacuum cleaner. Does edges and corners quickly and easily.

Trying not be sarcastic but here is all that the other posts said:

"Invited here to this bulletin board and because I use it and have demoed and sold others on it. You may want to re-think your ideas of perfect surface cleaner. Demoed this for large corporation client and had VIP in 3 piece suit using it and having fun because of it's versatility and control.

Can use it like vacuum cleaner and comes in several models. Easily modified for really high pressure.

12" 4 jets, 18" and 20" 6 jets.

George"

"Actually, Jon, it has a swivel head for getting beneath things as small as 4" and is much more easy to get against edges and corners. Had a specialty wand built for fella running 3500 PSI and would clean almost as fast as you could walk. 4 jets 1" from surface aimed directly at target and you can see instantly if an area needs to be gone back over and there is a smaller hand tool for walls.

Checkout the website.

Don't really want to come off sounding too much like salesman because my cut of wands is next to nothing if it is not bought by someone in my area.

George"

No price and no mention of product name. Was meant for information purposes only. Unless Miss Cleo told you other wise. :p

How's my signature?

George

Hydrotech and Hydrotek are not the same company I sell one but not the other.

George now your post with the signiture and banner meet approval.

Now what connection is your company to the Hydro Tech out of I think Ohio, the one that holds classes etc.?

I am totally aware of Hydro Tek out of Redlands but will say nothing about them here.

Hey Wiz, you're to kind to yourself, use your forum and feel free to advertise your stuff, in fact that is how Mark, your love of a competitor pushes his products on Dan's board and you should do the same here.

How are others going to learn what you sell and call you for prices if you don't?

George,

I think your signature looks great. Look around at everyone elses for ideas for improvement.

Ah, fellas, just messin with ya. Good way to find out who's in charge. Just gonna mainly read the information and see if what's profitable and what's not. This state is full of do-it-yourselfers and everyone thinks you ought to give away your services.

Just some of our Alabama humor. Mess the Yankees. :D

George

Oh there was a question asked of me. Don't know about the name HydroTech, didn't pick it. So you'd have to aske the fellas that picked it. That shows how low on the pole I sit.

Hey George sitting that low on the pole would there be a wooden seat and some corn cobs next to you?

Oh this Southern boy ain't one to mess with, I come from the DEEP part the South, Southern California that is:D

Can see you have that bleach boy look to ya. Did I say bleach? Uh, beach.

:D
