VAC Ideas

As you know I have been playing around with Ideas of how to build a 55 Gallon drum Vac that will really have a ton of waterlift.. I believe where i am going to start is to buy a carpet extractor unit used and convert it to run out of a 55 gallon drum.. We already have the surface cleaner and Scirocco vac system.. I am looking at using this project for something different .. Or maybe this is just something I wnt to try and build... I saw a couple of vac motors on ebay for about 130 bucks .. 3 stage with about 130 inches of water lift ... Has anyone ever built there on vac system .. As you may remember I got the pump out perfected with a sump pump , and a check valve..

Honda doesn't make tools, ...they assemble engines

Collapsing a 55gl drum with one of our SGV's makes a "compelling demo"
..but it sure wastes the 55gl drum !
If you need the performance to be delivered in over 50ft of hose, you need more suction, and a stronger tank..
All that time re-engineering what's already engineered is wasting your time.
Let manufacturers mass produce the equipment, to get y'all better prices..
That will save money, and you can focus on cleaning, which I'm sure you do very well.

Work smart.. Buy "competitive", ...with a warranty,
from a supplier that "cares" about performance for your dollar,
and clean faster than the "average guy".

No offense intended guys..
We thank you for any and all businesss you bring us,
I just have to say call for more info,
as it's our job to impress you..
especially on a difficult day !
Your creative time should be spent discovering new markets, faster techniques,
and better suppliers that keep you cleaning.

This brings up a very good point.

Is there a spec or manufacturing code or something to look at or ask for when looking for a 55 gallon drum or a 30 gallon drum that will work under vacuum and not collapse?

It is the weekend and the suppliers here are not open or I could call them, I guess if nobody answers before next week then I can just call the local places.

The Nikro dual-head vacuum I have is on a 55 gallon drum and it looks like a regular drum but has a coating on the inside, other than that and the removable head, it looks to me like a regular 55 gallon drum.

Anyone know the specs or code?

Thank You.

Chris, we use 27" Hg blowers with 5500 cfm vacuum air machines in the refineries and chemical plants and we have a drum loader attachment very similar to what everyone in the PW field uses.(just a heck of a lot more cfm and vaccum) We always use 55 gallon drums with 3 rings when drum loading and we don't have any problems from drums crushing most of the time. You can usually pick these up anywheres that sells drums. There is a place near the Lexington in CC that sells them to us when we are at the Valero Plant down there. I can look up the company on Monday when I return to the office. I hope this helps.

Chris, I believe you have to just look for Haz-mat drums. They are thicker.

one of our units is a regular drum with a vacuum in the lid. It hasn't ever collapsed but the lid itself seems to want to flex under full strain. Of course it isn't a huge vac either. good for about 100 feet and a 16 inch surfacer and 5 gpm.

Can't wait to hook up our newest vac. 24 hp Fury.

I used my pump vac last night the one with the sump pump and the check valve .. I mounted the pump in my shop vac .. Only 68 inches of water lift but I must say it worked great.. All it is , is a shop vac , pump with float switch, and a peice of hose and a check valve .. Nice and simple..

Great info guys, thanks!
