Today's words

It's everywhere, the basic problem is you have different models in argument. One guy wants to work all the time and run a profitable business that doesn't run him. The other wants to work two days a week and ride the other five. Nothing wrong with either if you can make it work.

I'm trying to learn how to make it work for me. Pricing seems to an issue that I need the most help on .The houses I do are so big ,I don't know how they can be done for $99 or even $199. I'm going to clean a house today that hasn't been cleaned in 3 yrs because the last time she had it done they killed alot of plants and blew off some siding and did'nt want it to happen again

Tony, I don't know what you consider big but charge accordingly. Time is money. Good luck to you and Bo, but lets keep the market strong PLEASE.. I have had a wonderful 10 years and I want the next 10 to be good as well.

Generally speaking....in my part of Georgia....Big houses do not have siding that can be blown off.

Price according to the market and pray low balling bottom feeders that charge $50 for a one story house do not come to your market.

Even if they do, they are not going to be able to survive.

All markets are different and there really is no set pricing structure to follow. Charge what works for you and is a fair price. Like Ron said, decide how you are going to run your business and work that model and pricing structure. No one knows better than you what to charge. You have the understanding of your area and the cost of living, charge accordingly.

Low Balling piece of S%&$!!!!!

Snake in the grass RAT!

It's most likely someone u took under your wing and trained, and then they turn around and underbid you.....Thats the definition of "Snake in the grass"

There's no shortage of scumbags out there, in this economy u cant trust anyone , let alone show them the ropes :speechless:

Ron tends to beleive that if you all work together on pricing, that this will solve the Low Baller effect. It dont work that way in the real world because for every 10 legit companies reading all this free info, there are 20 asswipes who take the info and run to H/D for their rig !!

It's really not that hard to figure pricing.

Labor Cost (includes wages, taxes & ins.) + Equipment Cost (includes Cost, Maintenance & Replacement) + Fixed Cost (includes office rent, utilities & maintenance) = Total Expense on your end take that number we will call it TE ...

TE x Marketing Percent (say you want your marketing to be 15% of your gross, so TE x .15) then do the same for admin salary and again for your net profit.

Out comes your Price no if and or butts about it ... That is how you price. Not just guessing but based on numbers!

yes I know now ... it did not click earlier ... ..Iv'e been warned this is HIS area ....Im not even from lincolnton . Do you know Bud Miller

How have you been Mike
Great post Ron and exactly what I would have said.

Bidding wars suck but unfortunatley not everyone has the same overhead, salaray expectations and goals. Some folks are not as diverse in their service offerings and in slower times may get more aggressive to stay busy....there is nothing wrong with this.

The other side of this is what Ron touched on and I will eloborate on. Relationships. Who has the relationship, who has the inside track, who has seen the budget? Possibly the guy that won the bid, perhaps there was a budget and he met the budget. Often times budget limitations dictate the scope of work and who is willing to do the work, not every job is for every contractor.

Try to work it out with the other contractors in the area.
