To reuse or not to reuse

OK, How many of you reuse plastic. If you do reuse it, what mil is it?
I use and reuse 4mil.
 
I don't reuse as a rule, IMO nothing worse than carrying a dirty pile of plastic into someone's kitchen. With that being said sometimes the plastic just isn't very dirty, so I fold it up wet side in and reuse it. The 2 mil will hold up to a second use, but I wouldn't try it with w 1.5 mil
 
I will reuse 3 or 4 mil on a Burger King if it is Semi Clean.. But I always use new plastic at the fancy restaurants.
 
My theory is this. If your margins are so low that you are considering re-using plastic sheeting, then you need to charge more for the job, or find cheaper plastic.

A typical 200 ft roll will drape about 10 good size hoods and costs about $20. That's $2 per hood.

If saving $2-$6 per job makes or breaks you then go for it.

But I toss after every job. Makes it easier the next job to drape with fresh clean plastic.
 
Kind of like recycled toilet paper, somethings just don't need to to be re-used.:p
 
Ok When I Go Clean Primos Restaurant I use 30 Feet Of Plastic .. Since there hood is never really dirty it is a shame to throw away clean plastic. So I will use it on a Burger King and then throw it away after the Burger King Cleaning.. We use 4 mil plastic because Our Machine Is so powerful it will eat up the cheap plastic and i hate leaks.. I don't normally hit the plastic with the wand but those late nights get sort of tough you know.

I pay $ 17.00 for 10x100 ft 4 mil clear plastic..

When I say if the plastic is clean I mean just like water and dust .. I will not re use really dirty plastic....

But hey what do I know I am Just a Hood Cleaner ....!!!
 
I will re use plastic that is used to cover equipment, but not platic draped from the hood.

Most the time it all gets throw out.
 
Time is everything. How much time does it take to roll up the plastic, store it, un-roll it vs just using clean, new plastic right off of the roll?

Do you get several different sizes left over in your trailer waiting for the right size hood to re-use them on?

When I drape a hood, I stretch it taut which tends to leave stretch marks, as well as I make small holes in the plastic to insert the chemical wand to spray the hood without letting any of the chemical splash/ blow back on me.

So when I get done, my plastic is a one time use situation.

I've heard of people using re-uable tarps, but when you clean a couple of BK's, you're not going to be reusing any plastic or tarp.
 
THROW IT ALL IN THE DUMPSTER
The time it takes to clean off and reroll and put away,you could have your next hood bagged.
 
I only keep the good pieces to reuse. The puzzle pieces get chucked.
Only takes 15 seconds to roll up a good piece and stuff it in with the other items your carrying out. I dont see it as a BIG waste of time. lol

And as stated in my previous post We dont reuse the part draped on the hood this could cause some serious health problems.Transporting bacteria from one establishment to another doesnt sound like a good idea.
 
I got to Clean A Bar And Grill Tonight ( I WILL NOT REUSE THE PLASTIC) but for a small fee I will Ship it to anyone who wants it >>> LOL
 
The average hood guy makes $2.08 per minute.I guess if you can get it back to the truck in 15 seconds.52 cents in labor saves $2.00 in plastic,for a profit of $1.48 extra off that job.Make sure you can bag your next hood just as fast
with old plastic as new or you will be cutting into your $1.48 profit..
 
OH Pleaseeeeee you guys are sometimes so anal. Lets see, the time it takes to shove the used plastic into a barrel. Give me a break. What about the time it takes to drive to wherever you go to get it. yadda yadda. A large portion of my customers are colleges, nursing homes, etc. The plastic I use is 4 mil. When it is not too dirty I reuse it several times. Yes several times. Saves me money, time, and unnecessary waste. I dont "fold it or roll it or clean it" My gawd! My guys watch what they do and do not drop blobs of grease on the plastic. I just shove it into a bag and use it on the next job until it is unusable, When I am going to a nasty job the next day I save some of the dirty plastic for that job. No one inspects my equipment when I start. They just want the job done. It is not about my profit margin Mr. Rust Bucket. It is about unnecessary waste. Like the time you spend spouting off on this site. It is a wonder this page is large enough to fit the pic of your head.

Hey Mike T hows things in Texas ? I still have couple feet of melting snow up here, will post some pics so you can see what WINTER looks like up here in da boonies.
