TITAN Aluminum VS Stainless

hey all,

looking at getting a TITAN 18" 12v reel for supply/garden hose. Im curious what the thoughts are on the aluminum and using it for garden hose vs spending the extra 200+ on stainless..

any thoughts, opinions, or experiences are greatly appreciated
 
I'd say save the cash. I don't have a Titan reel. For straight h20 just spraying a little protectant inside the manifold should add life. How strong are the motors on them? Can they pull strong through thick grass? I've learned that unloading and cranking the reel kicks my butt more than anything else.
 
Dave, never had electric I sure it's nice but just something else to break. Rolling the hose from under the real is easier than at waist level or knee level. I have gone to supply hose real from a box store and have had good luck with them. One can even paint them to match your other reals when you get the metal ones. I also modified a plastick hose real for my chem hose. With the addition of a gun swivel there is no manifold to rust up. I had a cheep swivel from northern, and it has held up pretty good with some hot mix.
 
dave i have a cheap reel from Tractor Supply for chem also. Don't use the manifold either. I just connected a sch 80 union adapter which i disconnect for reeling. It can get messy thou. Finding a way to mount a swivel is needed. The reel is metal cost $69.00 It holds 200ft of kuri-tec with plenty of extra room. I do have to unload all the hose because the drum section is pretty tight and will build back pressure between the reel and pump. Its blown the poly hose off the hose clamps making a mess.
 
i did the cheap box store reel route for a year.. was buying a new chem reel every 3-6 months.. so I'm slowly upgrading to titans.. Half the reason I'm going with an electric titan for the supply hose is because an 18" electric will fit perfectly in the spot i want to put it. wether or not is absolutely necessary is another question. but were talking about like $200 difference.. so I'm still not sure what I'm going to do.

but to answer my own original question of this thread.. I'm going with aluminum reel, and stainless internals/manifold.
 
Have yiu considered a Hannay reel? A 1500 series power rewind that will hold 200' of 5/8" with GHT manifold would run yiur $625 plus freight. Ask the guys who run Hannays about them. My customers love them. As for chem...We make a reel which has no manifold. It will never rot out. And the Hannay rewind motors do last.
 
Don't skimp on the reel. One of my reels is a "Reel Craft" 12v which I have used for pressure washing. It will hold 250-300ft of 3/8" hose. You won't be able to use this particular reel with the iron manifold for roof mix however, It has served me well for 13 yrs. now. I do have a separate battery to power it but hey, At the end of the day, I simply pull down on the switch and hold a rag over the hose which cleans the hose while rewinding it. Best part is, I don't break a sweat....

The motor on my Reel Craft has performed flawlessly. I'm the kinda guy that $200 wouldn't be a deal breaker. It's an investment...
 
Off Topic a little: But I know most everyone uses some sort of cloth or rag to run their hose through as it's coming in. An upgrade to your typical rag is a piece of fleece. Fleece is made from 100% polyester which resists rot and coming apart,..it's VERY slippery and the hose runs through it very easily. Just wet the fleece and use it like your typical rag. Try it!
