I did them like that 20 years ago. Now I only do them with the pressure if the customers insists and I make him sign a waiver for any future roof leaks. Also that roof isn't dirty if it was they would be going over the whole roof again to hit all the edges!

Jim you age well, I didn't think you where but in your 30's

I wonder if it hurts more/less if you land on the surface cleaner when you fall off the roof as opposed to just going splat on the concrete?

Thats too funny. That is exactly the way we used to do most all of our tile roof cleanings until we began using the non pressure method. I couldn't even begin to tell you how many we did that way. Part of the problem was that it didn't always get all the butt edges and they would have to be done with a wand as well as all the end caps. And yes, the potential for more broken tiles was there due to the extra force and all the extra time spent walking around o the tiles.

I wonder how many barrel tiles they cracked. They are made of clay and aren't made to be walked all over like that. I'm 210 lbs and would have taken out two or three tiles on every step! haha...
He did not appear to even be watching where he was walking:shakehead:

Larry you should make a blog you did this both ways

The roofs came out cleaner with no runoff issues. We only had to downstream chemical on the roof and clean, so no ground guy was needed. Most ask for soft wash now, but I still get some customers that prefer this old but safe method.

It can be done safe for sure! Pro and cons to both methods.

No safety equipment, but looks like he is doing a great job. I personally dont like PWrs on roofs but tile roofs can take the abuse...lol

If you look real close you can see that he has a vent pipe up his ass and that's tied off on the other side of the roof just like you showed us when we took your class?

Guess I have been doing it all wrong. This is how we normally used to do it but I stopped after reading this article a couple years ago. Still have not figured out a safe way.

phone 1306.jpg I have done many tile roofs using surface cleaner. I am 270lbs after breakfast mid day around 265lbs, its an art to walk on tile roofs without breaking them but once you have mastered it you will rarely break a tile.

There is a tv ad running around here that shows them using a 24" surface cleaner on a shingle roof. They lower it with the hose. When we started cleaning roofs several years ago we use a pw at low pressure but not a surface cleaner. Now we clean it with 50psi pump.

Least he gets dual use as a safety point and a crapper all in one.

BTW just did the FRSA show in Orlando and introduced our 32 Upcoming SoftWash Systems Authorized companies to 45 roofing products manufacturers. It was a hoot.
